Clutch not grabbing untill right at the end of the pedal ... ?
Hi Guys,
Have put my engine back in, and today took the car for its first spin up the street and back (literally a few hundred meters).
The first thing I realized was that the clutch did not grab until RIGHT at the top of the pedal (in other words let right out).
Now I know there is some adjustment in the cable, but I have set this so that the there is just the slightest amount of play in the cable when my foot is off the pedal.
If im driving along and every so lightly even rest my foot on the clutch, it will slip. I think its actually slipping a little if I take off hard in first, but a bit hard to tell with the minimal driving.
Anyway, I did get a new thrust bearing while the engine was out, and im 95% sure the clutch in it is NOT the rolled finger type.
It would appear that taking the gearbox out is a right pain in the backside........but I fear I am going to have to take the box out, unless that is anyone can come up with any ideas as to what might be happening or what I could do to improve it?.
I was even thinking there might be a way of sticking my iphone into the clutch lever hole to see if I can take a photo and confirm the clutch pressure plate type (although im quite certain its a straight finger type...and not a rolled finger type.
The clutch is not new, I put my original one back in as it was still in very good condition.
I don't remember it being this bad when before I too the engine out at all.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
Dave
