MK2 RS000 Outer headlights..........options?

Hi Guys,

So im pretty dark at myself. The other day I was mucking around in the garage, and I dropped on of my Hella sealed beam 60/55w outer headlights. Needless to say before I dropped it it was in perfect condition.

Does anyone happen to know of a good replacement for these lights?. I've taken a look at the ebay ones available from the UK (and from yesterford), but they don't have the little round window on them for the parkers, they have an actual globe that fits in there, and it hits the headlight mounting bowl. So im chasing something a little more original.

Anyone have any bright ideas?.

Thanks heaps

Dave

Take a look at the offerings at NA Autos (link below).  I'm not sure exactly which one you need (there are several 5&3/4" headlamps), but several have provision for parking lights.  The 7" Autopal ones I bought have glass lenses, dust boots for the bulbs, parking lamp holders and the correct mounting tabs to match the original Lucas lamps my car came with.

A company called "CoolDrive" has larger photos though, so google the part numer you are interested for a closer look.

I hvent seen 5 /34 lights with the park 'window' in years so i dont fancy your chances.  I have use the Narva halogen conversion kits a few times now and they are pretty good.  You are right that a small modification is required in the mounting bowl to allow clearance for the park light but this is dead simple and also not visible when fitted to the car.

There are 2 types available from Narva. One has a raised GLASS lense and the other is what they call a 'free form' lens which is polycarbonate and not glass.
NOTE: The free form version can only take 55W globes -

Part number for the Free form kit is 72064

I just went through all this when ordering mine and decided not to go with narva at all.
    Narva actually offers 3 options
72064 - Low beam only and not really option for RS unless you like losing high beams on outers.
72050 - Hi/Lo Beam Raised glass version. will do the job but in my opinion raised flat lense looks **** on RS
72010-  Hi/Lo beam curved glass, multi surface reflector. I almost got these but decided against it as it looks too 'modern' for the RS.

Narva 'Free form' lenses can be either glass or polycarbonate.

5 & 3/4" headlamps with parking lamps are still available; check out page 3 of this catalog for 3 different variations:

I think Gdub was refering to actual 'window' as to correctly replace stock sealed beam that was all glass but had a portion of reflector missing creating a 'window' to pass parking globe light into the sealed beam.
I have only seen 'window' in sealed beams, all the h4/h1 conversion inserts I came across had a built in parking light socket as per all of the examples above(Autopal, narva etc.)

The 'window' sealed beams are still available.

Oh, well I've never heard of that arrangement (never having owned an RS2000, dammit), but at least there's some choice out there still.  I normally have a preference for factory original stuff these days, but I opted for clear lenses for my resto because they are supposed to throw more light on the road, which as we all know, Escorts badly need, and they are easily switched out again anyway.

Yea, agreed on more light needed. I currently have correct 'window' sealed beam outers but as they are only 60/37.5W, the low beam is pretty crap, a bit candle like. High beam was awesome with 60w outers and 150w aircraft landing lights  inners.
I ordered h4 outers and h1 inners, this opens up the globe options with different types and wattages.
    cheers

    cheers all for the replies.

It looks like (as I suspected), I really only have three options.

    1) Use the autopal ones I bought, and modify my headlight bowls to suit the parking lamp,
    2) Keep an eye out on ebay for some either NOS or second hand 60/55 sealed beams with the aperture window.
    3) Keep an eye out for someone wrecking a mk2 rs2000 that hopefully has what im looking for.

Unfortunately given that the latter two options rely on time and luck, I think im going to have to modify the headlight bowls so I at least have something in there.........

Anyone have any sealed beam 60/55w 5 3/4" lights with the aperture window??? :)

I just removed these and is probably the closest to factory sealed beams that you will find.

    Thanks RS2000.

They are almost perfect, bar the 37.5w low beams!.

Fortunately I got a call from another member who has hooked me up with a set of hella sealed beam, 60/55w with the aperture window.........perfect!.

    Thanks all
