Restoring color in MK2 console switches

So im sure we're all faced with the same issue. The black coloring of the switches in the switch panel (and the lever of the fan switch) has gone that grey sortof color over time.

My question is, has anyone come up with a fancy way of restoring them to looking nice and black again?.

Ive tried very fine sandpaper (like 4000 grit), followed by a polish.......no good. Ive tried spray painting the fan switch.....no luck.

Surely there has to be a way of getting some bling back into them?.

Vaseline.  smear it on and leave it for a few days then wipe it off.  What you do with the left over vas is up to you....
