Rear Springs Mk2

Hi guys I currently have panel van leafs on my car and I want the back to be lower. I want to keep it legal so it cant be too low.

I was originally going to use 1 inch lowering blocks for the cheapest option but using these will place the shock mount too close to the ground (within 100mm) so that isn't an option.

So the only way to lower the rear legally is a lower spring. My two options are to reset my current springs about 30-40mm lower or buy King springs as my budget is not at all high.

About 12 months ago I was quoted 170 to reset the springs and about 300 for new Kings. From what I have read the Kings are good but I also recognise some are using panel van springs and like them.

Please let me know what you would do in this situation as ideally the car needs to be lowered within 3 weeks.

Cheers, Ryan

Depends what you want to use the car for.  Most i have seen with Van springs by now are stuffed.  The leafs sit flat with no curve which simply means they no longer work properly.

    Lowering blocks (yuk!)

    Make it go FASTER!

Thanks Gdub, I am kind of leaning towards the Kings just to make it easier so I can do a straight swap and not have the car off the road for more than a day.

That is a good thing to know though, I wouldn't want to get them lowered then have them go to poo. They seem like they are ok at the moment but they are just standard height.

The car will be used mostly as an every day car but I will be doing events eg. track days and motorkhanas. Ride comfort isn't something that bothers me though, I'd be quite happy to drive a race car on the street as long as it handled like I wanted it to.

Just an update for anybody interested,

Bought kings in the end and fitted them up a couple weeks ago.

Very happy with the result. Slightly softer than the old panelvan ones so its not as tailhappy, i can go round a corner at speed and accelerate without a break in traction. Before it wanted to go sideways all the time.

The eyebrow height looks perfect with tyre just under the guard but with not much fuel in the tank im right on the legal limit of 280mm.

The most impressive thing is the way in which the car can launch off the line, before (with not a lot of power) I got a lot of wheelspin but now the rear squats and off it goes. Not much tramp either compared to old ones.
