Diff and gearbox for 1/4 mile??

Once the pinto is in my MK1 i would like to run it over the 1/4. At the moment the standard 4 speed and 4.1 diff makes 1st gear too short. I have tried 2nd gear take offs but the crossflow doesn't have the torque and the clutch won't last long with that kind of treatment.
Would it be better to:
Keep 4.1 and standard 4 speed, 2nd gear take off (pinto)?
Put in a higher ratio first gear?
3.77 diff?
3.77 and higher 1st gear?
Thanks

If the car is dedicate to 1/4 miles I would put a 2 speed powerglide in.
Most clutches and std escort gearboxes won't handle the abuse for very long.
Changing the first gear for a 2.39 or there abouts would be better but still not ideal.
I personally would be keeping the diff ratio as is.
    Cheers

Thanks Craig. Yeah 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th is wicked with the 4.1. It definitely won't be a dedicated drag car hahaha. I'd be stoked to get anything under 16 seconds! I'll see how it all feels once installed. Cheers
