Thanks for that John. I'm thinking of changing diffs in my MK1. The gregory's manual says MK1 1100/1300 Man & Auto all use 4.125. But 'Ford Escort Downunder' by Cliff chambers says 3.9. Which would it be?

Early MK2's were 1300 and they had either 3.89 or 4.125.

All 1600 MK2 manuals were 3.77, Not sure 100% on autos but 3.89 sounds correct.

    All 2 litre MK2's had 3.54

1st feels really short and the car loses heaps of momentum between 1st and second. Would a 3.77 make much difference?

Depends on what ratio you already have, and what you're aiming to achieve.  I have always found a 3.77 the happiest medium with an Escort on 13" wheels and a 4 speed.

From 4.125 to 3.77 is approx 400rpm change at 100klm.  I have 1 3.77 ratio left if you need one $180 +$25 freight

    Cheers
