what tyres ??

My 3dr is still running on original tyres, well 10 year old but still the original types.
As it stood on them for 10 years without being used I'm somewhat concerned about them ageing and peeling off on the first high speed track corner !!
I'm looking for a recommended tyre to replace them with, will prob fit new rims too and save the old ones for posterity.
Any suggestions given that its going to be doing Autokhanas and hill climbs as well as a weekend driver.
Rim suggestions are also welcome but bear in mind I'm in Australia and we aint got the selection you guys in the UK have :(
Cheers
Keith

Keith. I think youl find the selection of rims for escorts and sierra's is very limited in Oz. Youd be better off buying some Compomotives from the UK.
Should be able to get rims deliverd for less that $2000.
Do you want to stay in a 15inch rim or step up to a 17 for the track work? Also depends how you want it to look!

Im trying a set of Achillies 123r's on my mk1 weekender/track car.
There a semi slick type tyre but a bit harder and more durable than a lot of the other "sticky" types so apparently don't need quiet so much the warm up/warm down process some do. They also have more substantial grooves which help in the wet.
There also a much more realistic price.

Rims can be anything, OZ racing I've thought have always looked nice on Sierra's. Well made, light weight etc. You'll be able to get the right sizes easy enough.
If you struggle to find anything i can put you on to my guy over here in Sydney. He's pretty good with it all and gives great pricing.

Kieth i know of a guy in Perth that has some wheels that would look great on your car, he has a genuine RS500 and he was looking at getting bigger wheels. However the last time i spoke to him he was in 2 minds about fitting them, if you are interested just pM or call me and i can see where he is at with them.

check out the Kuhmo ku36. I'm about to throw a set on my 07 cooper s.  I have heard great things as an all rounder for these and for 225 45 17 they are cheap at $160 a corner.

not a sales man but have just been researching this exact thing :-)

    Hi Keith,

You'll need to decide on rims before we can give you any advice on tyres . Are you looking to stay with 15" rims or go up to 16 or 17"? Would you prefer 5 or 6 spoke type rims or mesh like the originals?

I know a guy on the Gold Coast who has a really nice set of 16" BBS rims from his RS500 if you're interested.
