My Escort is a black hole!

Besides just a pit to pour money into my Escort lately has developed a black hole.
 
I keep dropping little hex head bolts and washers etc and they don't hit the ground and I can't find them for love nor money. 
 
This has been happening a lot so today I thought i'd water blast the engine bay to find all the missed bolts and washers etc but nothing.
 
NOTHING!!
 
Is it just me or there seems to be a localised black hole in my engine bay!

    Probably gone to where all the missing socks go.  
     
    Engine mounts are a good place to start.

    You need a kid with small hands to get into the engine mounts.
    Between the x member and the rack is another black hole.

    I had both kids under there looking for stuff but all they did was  fight with the spiders!
