1970 v6 capri - carsales

This isn't my car, firstly.

anyone know why/could think of a reason for why it hasn't sold? It's been up there for ~2 months, all other capris have sold like hotcakes

    Unclear why not sold.
Has non-standard deflector in front off radiator (only concourse issue), Holley fitted (not Weber, big deal !),
    Is missing
    - cigratte lighter and
    - RH door courtesy switch,
    - console walnut-grain plates (like dash)
    - ???Wiper swtich (hard to see, and visible ones appear to lack logo)
    - RH door carpet cap
    - LH armrest is Deluxe type fitted
    - wrong RH window winder (Cortina mk1/2?)
    - blackout treatment applied (all rear hockey sticks, boot chrome , chrome headlight surrounds, sill chrome strips, rear lettering all black)
    - front F.O.R.D letters
    - has European front indicator lenses
    - outside mirror is Deluxe spec
    - door trims and seats look a bit tired/sagged

However, brake lines are not in right position for a V6 shell (not crossing heater plenum) which would raise questions about authenticity.  Would need to check other structural V6 specifics to be sure it was a geuine shell.
Looks like a personalised project that needs some finishing off.

Also...$17500 is pretty much top dollar (IMHO).  Car prices everywhere seem to be falling in line with general lack of interest, possibly due to GFCmk2 parked just around the corner.

Just my  opinion (from 20+yrs of playing with Capris)

Really appreciate your response accapmad, I've been in contact with him and it's still for sale. Do you think if I got some more photos off him you could please run through them with me and let me know what else is missing/whether or not you could tell if it's a genuine v6 shell? Any other areas in particular where you can tell it's a genuine v6 shell? I only know of the break lines and the battery being passed the radiator. He did mention it was "one of the first v6's made" or something where they were badged 3000gt instead of 3000v6.

I reckon it might also just be because of the way it looks. compared to other capris this looks shockin, to get it looking the way you want you'd have to rechrome everything, then probably repaint it costing ~7k just before you get it looking the way you want

For what it's worth, it's been on car sales for the best part of a year & the asking price hasn't changed much for some time.
I've seen price adjustments as small as $50 when the ad's been updated in the past.
I'd considered the car too, but rejected the idea for much the same reasons as mentioned in the posts above.
A shame really, as the owner's obviously put some hard work into it.

Also, the model number for a 1970 V6 Capri should be 13018.
I'm pretty sure the engine crossmember has 3 bolts a side securing it to the chassis rails, not 2, like 4 cylinder shells.
V6 shells also have triangular gussets in the upper corners (firewall to inner guard) of the engine bay, which that car clearly has. There are a few other things, but I'm not 100% sure of the details, so I won't muddy the waters. It's all here on the forum somewhere though. . .happy hunting!

    Model code 13018 for 1970 V6 (13016 = 1600 XL, 13014 = 1600 Deluxe)
Engine code P, trans code X for 4spd (not sure auto code off top my head)
Cross member 3 bolt (4 cyl 2-bolts per side)
Triangular gusset as Jason said above
Battery inset into engine bay skirt LHS for Bigger v6 battery
Shorter spacer between bonnet slam panet and radiator (v6 longer than Kent 1600).
From subframe in front of sway bar corner bracket has double skin strengthener all the way forward (4 cyls stop immed front @ sway bar bolts)
Brake lines run high across heater plenum box (I see this one still has the outer tabs for this, but compliance plate looks like it would be under the brake line usual position).
Speedo has 70mph at 12-noon on dial, with tacho showing redline at 5800rpm (not 6000rpm for 4 cyl) and has x100 V6 printed on face
Atlas rear loading diff on V6, 4cyl has front loading 'English' axle (can remove pinion/crownwheel from front).....and wider rear brake drumss too
V6 has 13.5 gallon tank - looks fatter in the boot (more rearward intrusion into boot space)
Enigine bay wiring loom is different to 4 cyl (foor location of things...)

And if this is truly an early V6, then normal production differences might explain brake line (re)positioning to later ones.  For example, the seat belt tunnel mount bolts - later ones moved to side of tunnel, early on top.
And 1969 models had the b-pillar seat belt mount @ shoulder height, later 70+ moved head-ish height.

Paint looks pretty good in the pics but you would inspect before buying of course.

And....IMHO, Redbook values are a bit optimistic across a number of vehicles in todays marketplace.

thanks again guys, I've got a few more pics off him but they weren't really the ones I asked for, so they won't make it any easier to know if it was a genuine v6. He said it had rego in 1999. Model Number is 1308,  Series Number CK17KY  and engine number is JE1166B (didn't send photo of the plate, just told the details)

Something seems a bit strange especially after hearing it's been up there for a year. He's accepted two price drops from me straight off (the second one was bigger than the first) which seemed strange that he accepted the second.

Has anyone gone to check it out? What's the lowest someone's got this car down to price wise?

The model no. should read 13018 which means 3000GT model (It also means 1600GT on 1969 models)
    (13014=1600 Deluxe & 13016=1600 XL)
    CK17KY means the following:
C = Ford Britain affiliate (Australia)
K = Fords Homebush (Sydney) assembly plant (all Australian assembled Capri's were built there)
    17 =  Capri GT (14 = Capri Deluxe and 30 = Capri XL)
K = 1970 model (1502 manual GTs & 167 Auto GTs were built that year)
Y = February build (123 manual GTs built that month with the original first 40 manual GTs being built in January, 1970, NO Autos were built until August 1970)
For what it's worth, the car looks fairly original given that 40 years has passed since it was built though it has been 'customised' as have most Capri's by now anyway! Whether its worth $17,500 or $10,000 is entirely up to the purchaser. They are getting much harder to find now and if you really want one then an offer of up to $14,000 should be enough I'd say!

    Current ride:
    '83 Mk.3 Capri, 2.8i, 5-spd

This car SOLD yesterday ..... I believe that it has the wrong brake lines on it. As you can see the body tag behind the booster where the brake lines should be bolted.
Anyway 20yrs without a capri is just too long. So now I have 2 (since yesterday) This car and a mk3 for butchering .... Maybe !!

Nice! Do you mind asking how much you got him down to?

Are you going to keep the paint/blackout scheme?

around the 14k, the colour doesn't really do it for me... but it is whats on the compliance plate. I do think that the missing final tidy up is why it didn't sell quick. I'm going to use it a bit as is while I finish the mk3. Then probably park it up and bring it up to concourse.
