Smartphone / Mobile forum capability.

Hi Admins,

I see that the topic of Forum Mobility was briefly covered in October of this year, but wondered if you guys have considered the "Tapatalk" option. Im not affiliated with them at all, however i am a member of a few other automotive forums on the internet who use the Tapatalk servives, and I must say it is brilliant.

I cant work out 100% what forum base you are using, and im not completely sure if it is supported by tapatalk, but it might be an option worth looking into. I for one have just come back from a trip to Sydney (Melbourne - Sydnet - Melbourne) and whilst in the passenger seat thought id catch up on the forum. Needless to say, a tapatalk style interface would make the mobile viewing experience much more user friendly.

Anyway - just a thought. Great forum guys, i enjoy it every day.

    Thanks. I'll check it out.
We are running ASP Playground version 3.9
Have you been using the mobile theme while on your smartphone?
I have been meaning to edit the code so that it automatically displays the mobile theme when users connect to the forum with their smart phones.
For now, you need to select it manually

    Gday "Admin" :)

I havent used the Mobile theme, but will try it out. I suspect it wouldnt be too hard to grab some sort of agent string and fudge things to enforce a theme, or redirect to a URL.

One of the reasons i suggested tapatalk is because I (as is probably the case for many forum members) am a member of quite a few forums, and it is extremely handy to have access to all my forum membeships all through one "app".

Anyway, you're the expert, ill leave that to you. If you need any more info on how it works, gimme a hollar.

Hi, Tapatalk doesn't yet support this forum software.
I have edited the code to force mobile devices to use the mobile theme.
Let me know if there are any issues.

Hi, not to drag this back up but I have a query....I have an iPad and I can/do/like viewing the forum on it, I was wondering the whole forcing of mobile theme...

As I can view the home page however it is forced to be mobile, I scroll to the bottom and select the "classic" theme and this seems to work for the other pages on the forum except the home page?? Is this normal?

    Cheers

Yes that's the way it is set to work. I figured that people conencting to the home page from a mobile would want the mobile theme though people clicking on a subscription link (as an example) would want to choose the theme.
This will work much better once version 4 of the software is released. Mobile and tablet support is one of the main upgrade criteria I believe.
