doing the capri thing

Hi guys,

Just wanted to ask the Capri crew a few things, being an escort owner looking to take on a capri project some day.

Could somebody enlighten me to some of the main differences 9or even similarities between capris and Escorts? In terms of engine selection, I know that the 1600 kent featured in Capris, along with the 2 V6s available, and I guess people have successfully implanted pintos and Zetecs (correct me if I'm wrong here...). Are there any parts that are interchangable?

If anyone can shed some light on the questions below, id be pretty grateful...

Are there any major hassles putting a Type 9 into a Mk1 capri? I assume the gearbox tunnel would me much larger than the Mk2 escort.. And a custom crossmember would probably be necessary I guess?

Are capris as suited to track racing as the Escorts are? Or are the capri's longer dimensions a disadvantage over the escort?

What are the std diff's like? Do they stand up to more than the escort diffs? or are they the same? Id be interested in putting a St170 zetec into a capri...

    I've put a down-payment on a St170 donk and I'm in no rush at all - this project will be done with poise and patience! If I come across a Capri, I might just sink the St170 into it! Regarding Zetec mounts, I didn't quite get what you meant... Would they have to be longer than the Zetec escort mounts? So I'm guessing you would want to fabricate them yourself?
