Mk1 & Mk 2 Escort gear stick

I bought a gear lever off ebay that claimed to fit Mk1 or 2 Escort. I've just tried to fit it to my '72 1300 XL but the diameter of the "nut" on the base seems to be very slightly larger than the old one.

Is it me or are they not interchangeable?

Thanks.

There are 3 different sizes, the way to tell which one you need is to look at the colour of the neoprene "nut" thread, it will be grey blue or white ensure the one you buy matches the colour of the one that (used to ) fit your box

Cam, I might have a spare but not sure of the condition. I'll look at the week-end and if it's any good you can have it.

    Thanks Eric.

I discovered I had a spare in a box of stuff last night - but of course it's the same size as the one I bought. [88]

The one I'm looking to replace is the older type with metal "nut" and no locking tabs.

you could turn it into a sports one by making a longer nut 20mm longer is best---- and then a 20mm spacer between the yoke and fork and maybe move the c clip up the leaver or leave it out -- they work good --

Cam, I got hold of that gear stick at the week-end. It's not in good shape but you're welcome to it if it will get you out of trouble.

Cheers for that Eric, but I've "modified" the original one and it's not to bad now. Thanks for the offer though.
