New boy, with project questions :7)

Hi, I'm restoring a 1600 GT facelift 1974 ive owned may mark 3 's before but this being my first mk1. I have a few bits I'm not sure about, I could do with some direction from some other enthusiasts I came across this site by chance a couple of weeks ago and got pretty excited after looking through some of the gallery pictures and posts.
It's give me a great feeling and encouragement I needed.
My project was a bit of a find, log book still on 1st owner 42k miles on the clock & in pretty good nick.
I've spent last year stripping her down for a bear metal respray in a friends workshop at thruxton race circuit. It seemed that was going to be very straight forward job !
When the paint came off we could see there was a few old repairs that would need
Some attention eg. Both rear arches, didn't want to repair the front wings so opted for some very expensive original ones, and repair to the sill fronts. probably not a lot for a 37 year old motor?
Inside looks like new but I have fitted a new black headlining as I buggered the primal one and a new high quality black carpet. I've been toiling whether to keep her original as I does seem a same to spoiler her but I am no purist!
So I won't be refitting the vinyl roof or original wheels.
Just starting to refit engine bay, rewind loom and brakes etc now.
It pretty cold here at the mo so on a break till the sun comes out!

I don't know how to refinish the door and window quarter trims ate they polished ? Or do they need rechroming ? Or some sort of plating ?
Next decision will be original engine and running gear or ???
I am in a budget but... Well you know she is part of the family now :7) Much to wifes disbelief.

the window trims are alloy, you can sand the annealing (not sure of correct terminology now) off and then polish ... or have them reannealed... I just sanded and polished them and now wipe over with alloy polish every so often

    Anodized.

I've not looked into this, but I think there will be re-chroming shops who also do anodizing.

I'm not big on originality so I painted mine flat black to enhance the look of the window tint.

    Thanks for the replies,
I guess the cheaper option is to polish them?
or re-anodize them if i want to part with a load of money.
what does the majority of you do ?
I see so many Mk1's all lovely shiny bright ware![8~2]
