RS steering wheels

is there a difference between the steering shaft on a mk1 to a mk2 escort? We bought an rs wheel to put onto the 1976 mk2 to replace the small sports steering wheel on the car when we got it, Went to fit it tonight and the RS wheel won't fit, The id is around 18mm where as the one that came off the car was around 20mm.

Any ideas?

thanks Ted

I think mk1 are smaller (like Mk1 Cortina) as you have discovered.

Paul is 100% correct. the Mk1 is a smaller shaft than a Mk2.

I have a MK2 RS Steering wheel in reasonable condition that I would be happy to swap for your MK1 if that is what you have? Ken
