Temperature Sender

Hi Guys,

The RS's temp gauge is reading high(in Red), replaced with a new one now it goes off the dial. Does the RS need a different sensor to standard Escorts? Any ideas? Wiring is correct as i disconnect wire from sender and it goes back to cold. The temperature is not that hot 70 C

    The sender is the same as a normal 2 litre. Have you tried a thermometer in the radiator to see what it is really running at?

    I had same problem with locally bought senders - either off dial or hardly moved. Had to buy XTT14 from burton power

    Hi Gareth, Yeah put in a thermocouple and found around 70 C. With the new one at overtemp you could still touch the wate

    how good are the earths?
    did you use thread tape?

    If it is the dash (sometimes the resistor/regulator packs up) be careful who you take it to for repairs.
    Some of the instrument guys solder on an external unit and the good guys replace the insides of the factory one. I have sen some butchered dashes.

    Thanks Peter, do you know where can i find out what the resistance should be, so i can then test with external source.

    I had mine done on the red RS i had by Ringwood Speedo. They actually remove the voltage stabiliser and replace it with an electronic one. The only annoying thing was that it had to be cable tied up behind the dash.

    Worked perfectly though.

    Be careful testing the guages with the dash out of the car. The guages are only 5 volts not 12 and can be easily burnt out.

    P.S. about bloody time you got this car going ... Will it make it to the club cocours at the end of the month?
