Black/Blue 2ltr MK2 Sedan, Manual, Heaps of Goods!

Well the time has come, very sad to see her go.

hmm where to start, well, ive had this car for about 3 years now,

Dont have reciepts for all the parts and mods, so most will be word of mouth or appearance,

The car was lowered by some 1.5inch lowering blocks on the rear, and some pedders springs out of a gemini for the front, these were chopped a few links to suit the escort strut, handle well and set a nice stance, but they do occasionally bind when turning (dont stop you from turning, just making an annoying POP sound)

GOOD PARTS : ---------------------------------------------------

the rear brake cylinders were replaced, front pads are KFM500, in reco'd & spaced calipers, to suit smcka's vented, cross drilled and slotted rotors, master cylinder was reconditioned, brake fluid itself, not more than 7-8 months old. the only original parts in the braking system (or atleast original since ownership) are the flexible and solid lines.

the engine is a 2ltr pinto, which supposedly has forged pistons, shot peened rods, and shot peened crank, fully balanced from pulley to flywheel, larger intake valves (proved this to myself when I did the headgasket) a cam (not sure what make, but its got a lumpy idle, and u can really feel the power improve at about 2500-3000, still has good low end) and some porting work thrown in, ARP head stud kit. Before now, it went VERY HARD!!!

intake is a (redline?) manifold with twin 40mm dellortos (GDUBS old carbies, ran perfectly on this engine, never backfires) and some intake trumpets, trumpet for no1 dented on tip,

Has extractors and a 2.5inch sports exhaust, consists of a muffler before diff, and a hot dog after diff, with a cop dettering tip. sounds just beautiful from the outside. doesn't hit floor or rattle.

Stereo consists of, a cheap ebay headunit (works fine, but if you put in your own stations or time, drains the battery overnight) Rampage amplifier, front 4" response audio speakers (tweeters damaged), Rear 6x9 rampage speakers in wooden boxes (heaps of bass) and a 12" Fusion Subwoofer also in a wooden box (again, heaps of bass), headunit also has remote, but battery has died.

Has a Central Locking kit, this doesn't have an alarm or whatever, just unlocks and locks the car, flashes indicators, all four doors still work.

Has a (Compro?) Rev limiter, mounted above glovebox, works perfectly, and when set to 0 acts as an anti-theft device.

Has a Black and Blue (matches paint) sports steering wheel with boss kit.

Engine mounts were replaced for roady, they are smcka's items.

both tie rod ends were replaced for roady.

Paintwork is discussed below, but surface wise its beautiful, its smooth as a baby's bum! was always washed and polished! (waxed)

Starter motor was not reco'd, but i did get a solenoid kit put through it, again works perfectly, since i got it done (2-3 months ago), its ground out on the flywheel only 2/3 times, and i start it 2-4 time a day. never ground out on the teeth, only on the face.

Clutch is a HD valeo item, only about a year old, still very smooth and grippy, thrust bearing was replaced same time.

Has Angel EYE headlights with Krystal backing and h4 halogen bulbs (shine blue, not yellow)

Has 2 little fog lights mounted on the top of the bumperettes, they are connected to the angel eyes, which are operated by a little switch in the dash.

New front windscreen when roady was done (7 months ago?)

Sierra electronic ignition, module was replaced around roady time because i snapped a tab off the old one.

Radiator was not Reco'd, but i had a professional service done on it, up until now, engine sat happily at 60 degrees, go up a long hill, or have a heavy foot, would never go above 70...

Brand New battery, No reciept to prove, so car may not be sold with it, dont have a new vehicle yet so not sure if i need it.

Condition wise everything still works, except the intermittent wiper function, you have to either use slow or fast.

Horn is tempermental, some times it works, sometimes it doesn't. (my friends all find this very humorous)

Has Autotechnica Bucket seats, still in reasonable condition.

Has Pedder springs up front, good condition shocks, and a 24mm WHITELINE PRO swaybar, handles reasonably!!

4 13x5.5 hotwires, with FALKEN tyres, 2 almost at wear indicators, other 2 still good

overall drives very smoothly, no annoying sounds or rattles, feels like a bentleigh compared to my mates old gemini.

Has a third braking light in the parcel shelf, definately saved me from any rear end accidents from people in taller vehicles.

Ill keep adding if ive forgotten anything.

BAD PARTS ---------------------------------------------------------

The engine was running perfectly just last night, drove all the way to frankston and back (hour round trip) but for some reason, when i started it up this morning, it was running like a dog, turns out to have no compression on cylinders 1,2 & 3.

NOW - this could be a Blown headgasket, scored piston bores, or even warped tappets (easy to fix, i had this happen once before) its still got the right amount of oil in it, ill diagnose it a bit more and report back, it also ran a bit hot (got to 90 degrees by the time i got to work, so likely to be headgasket)

The engine does blow a little smoke, and collects a bit at the PCV or atmosphere breather.

theres a dent on the P/S wheel arch, been there since ownership, never bothered to fix as its easy to ignore.

Passenger seat is missing the return spring, so it shakes itself open, and then the seat will slide forwards or backwards on the rails. (not dangerous, just annoying for the passenger)

Drivers seat has a ciggarette burn right in the center, been there since i bought the seats)

Drivers carpet is quite a mess, due to the windscreen leaking before i got it replaced. has got a floor mat over it.

Passenger floor had a rust hole in it, which i riveted a plate in, and welded up, filled over and painted, now thats its dirty like the rest of the floor, from underneath you cant even notice it.

there is rust coming though from the D/S of the rear windscreen corner, near the boot edge, and a little bit from the opposite side,

some rust dots in the d/s rear pillar, and some dots on the rearward side of the rear wheel arches.

ignition has been wired up to ACC by mistake (never bothered to fix) so yeah, engine will still run on ACC, and because of this the engine doesnt get spark when turning over, so i had to put an override switch in,

- you turn the switch on, start the engine up, then you flick the switch off, if you turn the ignition off with the switch still on, the engine will continue to run.

Fuel cap key is broken, half of it is still in the cap, still opens, again, just annoying.

Drivers window has some scratches.

PAINTWORK, ive gotta worn potential buyers that the paintjob is far from perfect, i did it myself in my shed, so therefore it does not look perfect, the roof is fairly unco (needs a professional coat of clear) and if you get the car in the wrong light you will see the paint looks fairly dodgy, and there are two marks on the bonnet where i spilled paint and wasn't able to touch it up properly (these are able to ignore)

ALTHOUGH, in the bright sun, it looks absoloutly beautiful, its got silver and blue flakes through the clear ontop of the black, so very eye grabbing and very sparkley!

the paint in the doorjams was done pretty shabby, but again, easy to look past.

The front and rear window seals were painted over, so when the front windscreen was replaced, it cracked the paint that was on the rubber, i went over it with some black paint and a small brush, helped hide it, but still noticeable. bought a chrome windscreen strip to help pretty it up.

Backseat is torn.

Door trims are fairly basic, and were made at home so they dont look perfect, Door handles need to have covering removed and be painted.

Interior light over time fell into a million pieces, so now there is the bulb holder hanging out of the head lining.

i never got around to getting a standard washer bottle, so i have a remote motor with a little drink bottle (very dodgy, but works)

I damaged the original gearbox, so it was replaced with a second hand item, works perfectly.

My "Custom" Grill will be disliked by any perfectionist, as the removal off the original grill center was a bit agricultural, again easy to look past.

Will be SOLD WITHOUT REGISTRATION OR ROADWORTHY

THINGS NEEDED FOR ROADWORTHY

(original roadworthy still in glove box)

needs original springs put back in struts, and rear lowering blocks removed, and original brakes put back in,

needs a cover thrown over the bottom half (squab) of the backseat, i used a bedsheet for this lol.

needs standard carby put back on and canister installed to meet emmisions standard.

needs standard steering wheel installed.

engine bay is a fair wiring mess, but i did wrap alot of the wires up in that plastic wiring wrap you buy from autobarn, (engine bay picture was taken before wrap was installed)

THE CAR - was always treated nicely, don't get me wrong, i will admit i DID drive like a stereo-typical P plater, (hence the two lesser tread tyres) but mechanicly i babied this thing, oil and coolant were always being checked, and diff fluid was checked when i first got my licence, and gearbox fluid was changed, never driven hard when cold (i have to go up a hill if i go in the mornington direction, if i went that way i would always give it atleast a minute or two to warm up)

COMES WITH PLENTY OF SPARES

comes with 2 spare standard rotors (NEW, will need for roady)

4 calipers, 4 brake pads (all good)

standard italian made 32/36 weber with spanish made float cover (carby top)

standard manifold, RAMFLO air cleaner assembly, with a less than 500km air filter

2 spare gearbox's, ones from a cortina, as far as i know only good for parts, but the cortina one might be ok, the other escort one is the one i damaged 4th gear in.

Spare stuffed 2ltr (if desired for parts). Chrome rocker cover also.

Chrome timing cover (not currently installed)

1 spare distributer

charcoal canister (will need for roady)

2 standard seats (torn underneath, but do have seat covers)
(may need for roadworthy depending on where you get it done)

spare extractors

4 SAAB SUNBURST alloys, 1 has tyre installed, they are a bit aged (some gutter rash or tyre machine marks on the lips, otherwise ok)
they DO fit on the struts fine.

there is a bunch of other random spares, cant think of them all at the moment.

i would love to keep this car, (seriously, it breaks my heart) but it just really doesn't suit my lifestyle at the moment, i cant afford two cars, nor do i have the room for two cars, and i need a ute or wagon for my job. hopefully the buyer will have a nice garage or atleast a car port, and some tender, loving care to dish out.

if it doesn't sell on here, i wont bother chucking it on ebay, ill probably just store it long term till i figure out what to do with it.

this is a seriously fun car, and every drive is a fun one, regardless of how much foot you give it!

here are some pictures

ive been thinking of that, maybe rebuild this engine or slot in a more modern donk over time.....

i would still be driving this car today if it wasn't for reliability, everything that went wrong was engine related, from starting problems, to running problems, to cooling problems. as for the rest of the car, things bullet proof!

+1 vote for you to keep it.
In a few years when you have enough money, do it up properly. For 1 when its not your daily and 2 when your able to afford the best parts and the right people to make sure it goes like the clappers without braking.

You have put a LOT of effort into this car!!!

Keep it Sterling. Buy some basic japo buzzbox to get you to and from work, and rebuild it over time
    cheers
