Phils Rotary New Rear Moulds, any reviews?
Hi all a mate in NZ is keen to buy a few sets of the rear mouldings recently advertised on ebay by Phils Rotary, IIRC they are 4-500 a set. I have not seen any in the flesh and wonder if any forum members have taken the plunge and bought a set. If so, what are your thoughts on looks and quality. I heard they are polished not anodized, but that's all I've heard. My friend wants our thoughts before committing to a fairly large purchase

At $250 for the boot trim or $490 for the set, I don't think old Phil will give out a sample......

Motomobil have quoted me 165 euros (around $230 AUD) for a full set delivered, 8 to 10 week wait though and no joining piece (avail in UK though).
A set without boot trim went for $210 on ebay a few days ago.

I'm glad to hear that they have found another manufacturer. Do you know if Motomobil's trims are anodised? Even if they aren't, the price is certainly right! Cheers Jamie

Just checked their website, the J trims are listed as 'not aluminized' which I assume is the same as not anodised. The boot trim is not listed with this distinction, but I'd say it would not be anodised like the other trims.

Would it be worth getting the parts anodized there are a number of companies who do it,no indication of cost ,the process looks similar to the electroplating process

I'm keen to know what they are like also - the price sounds good. I have plenty of joining pieces anyway.(non original ones)

A few years ago I was in the UK and saw the rear moulds made by a Euro company. They were solid alloy bar - not hollow, and machine finished. They needed a linish and anodizing, price back then was about 90 pounds a set of 3. Not sure if these are what Motomobil are offering.
I just checked the Motomobil site and theirs are about 45 euro per piece, they are not in stock though. Price is good, but you need to add linishing / anodizing / polishing cost on. Silver anodize is possible as is alloy chrome, last time I got some small parts anodized a local plater charged me $50 cash. Assuming this is still ballpark, $235 plus $50 for a linish and $50 for anodizing, and $35 for the joiner makes $370 for a complete set. Not too bad as a local firm want $100 to $150 per piece to smooth out dented originals.

I enquired with Motomobil a couple of years ago and they were shopping around for a new manufacturer, but I'm unsure if the design now is the same as original.
There is apparently a UK firm also trying to finalise repros of these but last I was told they were having troubles with the curves on the J trims.

The 8-10 weeks they quoted is because the are using a new supplier. Sounded like they had found one and are waiting for initial orders to come through. They also said they will look into including joiner.
