2ltr no start?
ok i just put my engine in, to find no spark, i removed the 2 wires that go to the COIL from the MODULE and connected them too a working spare coil, i earthed the body, and ran my own + using a bike jumper lead straight to the battery,
NOW im getting spark, tested from lead end, and with spark plugs.
fuel is there, and inside the carbs,
it fires a few times, but otherwise theres no luck, it will just keep turning over and over,
the distributer is at no1, i cant figure out why it wont start now?
i haven't touch anything on the twin dellortos, which ran fine on my old motor, and so now i really cant put my finger on why it wont start?

Fuel + spark, no fire = timing.. Check check and cheack again... When all else fails, you will be missing something obvious. Check the firing order and that the dizzy isn;t in 180 out. Shaun

Sterling, With the engine switched off make sure No 1 piston is at the top of it's stroke and that the distributor button mark is aligned to the mark on the distributor casing.
To find top of piston stroke remove No 1 spark plug and place long screw driver into hole, rotate the engine by hand and slowly. Make sure screw driver does not lock against spark plug hole when rotating the engine. The timing mark on the crank pulley should also align to the timing mark.
Also maybe the carbs need further priming to get proper fuel pressure.

Check that the 2 wires from the dizzy are on the right terminals on the module (assuming this is the dizzy you bought off me).
Took me hours to figure that one, because you get a spark but it won't run.

if the engine backfired out the exhaust, what could this indicate?
flooded motor?
timing retarted itself somehow?
how did the fuel in the exhaust get a chance to ignite if the engine wont even run?

Timing might be out a little. while your friend cranks the motor over you grab the dizzy and slowly rotate it clockwise, if it gets worse go anti clockwise,*do not use throttle* the motor should start to spin faster on cranking, if no luck, remove plugs and dry them out and re-fit them, twin sidies like to soak plugs in unburnt fuel!! Worth a try..

im not tottaly sure what happened,
but i pulled out the dizzy, flipped 180, so it was pointing at no3 at TDC,
and there was heaps of backfiring when turning over,
then i stopped and said "yeah i had the dizzy right before"
so i put the dizzy back the way it was, and went for another test,
turned over, IMMEDIATELY started up..
i was shocked! as i said, i didn't really do anything and it just fired up.
thanks for your replies everyone, and im VERY stoked with this motor, she loves to skate!!

If you have number one piston on the T.D.C. Top Dead Center ) on the firring stroke--- you can tell this by looking down the oil filler hole, while rotating the motor back and forth if the 2 valves rock----- its not on the firring stoke its a 180 degre out ----if the don't rock its on the compression stroke -- right -- then put the dissie in--- or take a look at the roter and where ever the roter is pointing to that is number 1 piston --one so start you firring order from there -- ask dos the roter turn non clock wise or clock wise---
