Cossie Long Stud Tap

Hi Guys,

Im not sure if anyone here is in the engineering tool game but here goes...I need to source a 12mm x 1.75mm thread tap which is 150mm long or longer. Depending on price I will source a starter, intermediate and plug tap. Can anyone help?

    Hello Phil,

    I am professional engineer.

    Depending on what you are doing, usually one tap can do all.
    If you need a long series tap, usually a normal length tap can have an extension attached to the end to increase the total length.

    I have all these available,....and because you are a valued forum member i can loan to you free of charge.

    Alternatively pop over sometime with what you need tapped and i can do this for you.

    Anyway maybe give me a call to discuss further.

    As well,Im a maintanence/fitter/machinist and I have several m12 taps,let me know if you need to borrow one.
    A 1/4 or 3/8 extension on a socket usually suffices for me when its required and a bit more ROCOL or your prefered lube, there is nothing that cant be made but harder to come by a long series m12 tap,as they are hi speed steel and dont like to twist too much with out shatering all through that flash job/gearbox/engine,,etc....... you just assembled.

    yes there is a start,intermediate and bottoming tap,but for repairing a thread any one of these will generally do.

    Thanks Guys

    Its a fresh machining job which see's the existing threads for the head bolts machined through to allow long studs to reach the bottom of the water jackets. 10 new threads need to be drilled and tapped into the bottom of the block water jackets through the new holes in the block face. I measured the studs tonight and the deepest point that the stud will reach is about 125mm. I dont think the hole will be big enough to get an extension in there so a long series tap will be needed. Im hoping to buy one and give it to my friend doing the machine work. He was going to make a long tap but given the good rates he is doing the work for, I'd like to be able to give him the tap for the job...which should also be good for anyone else long studding a Cossie block in Sydney[:p] If I cant buy one Peter I'd really appreciate taking you up on your offer, it will be very well cared for while away from you

    Part of this machining process is the manufacture of a 'torque plate' which is made from 50mm thick solid steel. It will suit both Cossie's and Pinto's for anyone wanting the ultimate bore and hone job[;^)]

    I borrowed a torque plate last build I did. A very helpful engine shop, just had to give a deposit.
