Been thinking about going sr20.

Hey guys, been thinking about buying an sr20det front cut (not from advanced jap imports) and putting the motor into the escort.

Just thinking aloud and wondering if I could get some answers to some things....

So as I understand to free up the engine bay I have to move the battery to the boot and get a pedal box.

Can I tackle 2 birds with one stone and get a hydrolic clutch pedal box and use that master cylinder for the gearbox (hopefully s14)? As I understand all the sr20 gearboxes use a hydrolic clutch and figured this would be the eaisest way around it?

Apart from the issue of the clutch I figure in the way of other work that need to be done will include:
New diff to cope with the power
Enlarging the gearbox tunnel
Getting the cross member made up
Wiring - with possibility or replacing the factory gauges with the s14's
Replacing tail shaft

Is that all? Will I need to upgrade the front brakes too?

And also will it be easy to get it engineered?

Thanks for any help guys,

Jordan

mate i would seriously not bother with a half cut... all u want is the motor, box and loom... ur better off going on other forums and buying a motor, box and loom it works out to be sooo much cheaper...

or even just buy the motor by its self from an importer...

yer u will have to get rid of the battery and brake booster...
u can buy pedal boxes to suit escort with a spot for hyd clutch... SMCKA on this site sells them...

    ull need to get
a new diff (im running a hilux diff in my mk2)
    get a crossmember made up
    gearbox tunnel
    new tailshaft
better off getting coilovers for the front but standard struts with some good springs would be ok...
bigger brakes unless u want to kill ur self
    fuel system to cope
    new radiator
    intercooler + custom piping
    new exhaust to suit...
    the list goes on...

then u gotta play round with the wireing...

wat r u planning on doing with the motor? r u keeping it stock or guna do some work to it?

Stock for now, Ill go crazy later.

Hmmmm what's involved with the fuel system?

The reason I wanted to go for a half cut is the intercooler is already there, the wiring is complete and I can physically see what's ment to go were before taking it out, and you can see it running before hand so you KNOW your not getting something dodgy.

The stock nissan intercooler is useless and not in a good spot for an escort. The plumbing etc won't be able to be re used very easily and most of it, if not all is plastic anyways.

dude u can buy intercoolers for like $200 and there decent...
fuel system is easy... u might as well setup a surge tank... so all u will need is a lift pump and a main pump to ur engine... plus fuel lines etc etc

Cool, people at work have told me just to buy the engine as well.

Go Redtop? I plan to change the cams down the track so I hear this is the best option.

also best to grab one with the loom, ecu, AFM and everything intake and exhaust on it already yer?

    thanks guys

Grab as much as you can it may or may not be useful but it defineutely won't be useful if you don't have it and need it. probably wouldn't bother with exhaust as odds are it may not fit and gettin a dump pipe made is not expensive anyways.
