Good to hear it's got some go. [:p]

I don't think a little smoke is anything to worry about till the rings are bedded in.

I wouldn't keep driving it if it's pinking under load though. I've seen the damage that can do first hand! [:0]

Change that oil as soon as you can.

Ok, I got the car running again and was able to drive it to the exhaust shop, did alot of loading it up etc on way there. Gave it more of a work out on the way home. its got some go.

Taken it for a decent drive in the hills yesterday and its pinging it head off unless I baby it up the hills.

Its smoking very mildly on idle and when coasting along (blue/whitish smoke). No smoke under load.
So far it has probably 100km under its belt....is this normal? Been about 6-7years since I've run a motor in.

Thanks,
Rhys

This is why I don't drive them and only run the engine long enough to make sure it runs and no overt leaks
as the first few minutes are THE most important! as some rings you may have even missed any opportunity of bedding them at all. As doing it on the dyno you keep an ear on detonation and can load it up straight away as baby'ing it up the hills is the last thing you should have been doing, I would pulled over and whipped the timing light out if I had to do it on the road
The blue'ish smoke you are talking about on light load without seeing it personally, is not a good sign as it's sounding like the rings may no have bedded in properly and you may have missed the opportunity which may result in a quick rebuild with a new set of rings and a honed bore

[:I]
Danny I don't normally drive with a timing light in the glovebox

In all seriousness though probably wouldn't have been a bad idea considering I'd only just got it going.

The running in oil is like water so Im semi hopefully new oil will fix the smoking.
As far as the detonation problems goes, I'm going to have to go back to my notes of when I was building it and re-calculate the comp ratio (think I posted on here, so will search). Not sure if I'm going to get it to run nicely on pump fuel without affecting performance.

Rhys if you're running a 2lt head and flat top pistons it will run on pretty much any fuel you like if you tune the thing correctly
