Ford escort mk2 1979 GL

Hi folks, just finding my way into this forum. I recently bought a Ford esccort mk2 wich i drove many years ago.
Now, price gone up and lately the four doors as well. I had 3 of them two doors in the past and a mk1 wich i never should have sold. But that is what it is.

Now back with a first 4 door in my life, a classic and beauty for her age 45 years old. Not cheap, but interrior looks great. problems are there, like vinyl rooftop, how to keep it from more crippling, before i have money to redo this by a professionel.
Photo of car later, as i have an oldscool habit of not knowing modern phones so much to send pictures from phone to desktop. To much monkey business.

I am a go fast hotrod man, like them old style hopped up cars. But this is my daily cruizer... NO mods. Waiting for new igniton parts from Burtons. To get it started after 11 years been in storage. In September there is the European Ford meet in The Netherlands, 2 miles away, I hope to be there with that ol'gal..

cheers...

Guido

here's a picture of this car. Looks nice for its age. Now trouble seeking. Ignition. No spark.
Vinyl rooftop has wrinkled, and i am looking for a spray that can do prevent some further damage
for as long as needed to get it done new. That is not easy to do, because windows have to come out for this job.
First however, i need to get it running again.

some spots need attention, few dents and rust repair, but for most interrior looks very good at least that does 😄

Got it running after new iginiton installed. I was testing brakes. But then this happened....headlamp glas falls out. Rolled over it before i new it. Then search for another but the square headlights are harder to find. I was lucky to find an Old Ford parts store way down in Germany. They had them new. Payed 250€ with post and package. But the time is short to have it finally on the road. In a month there is a Ford meeting nearby, i hope to make it by then.

Today i went to a friend who has a carlift, to renew tie rod bellows. Some minor things to be done to get it ready for MOT early September. If thats all good, next thing is to take care of the roof, because the vinyl is in really bad shape, and the roof has some rust underneath. I think i'll strip it myself, and paint it with stuff that is called bedliner. Having a new vinyl rroftop, is to expensive for me now.

Hopefully next week is all good for another year on the road. To many things to mention wich i have done the past couple of weeks. This week the most of it. The car has its typical bad spots alright, but can be fixed in time. Engine runs just fine.

we are fortunate in Australia that we don't have a requirement to get out cars as thouroughly checked each year as your MOT.
Combined with your wet roads, I can see why so many can get scrapped in the past when they fail MOT's.
