so did you have to cook that wrinkle finish paint?
I recently saw a rocker cover done in a similar fashion, and might do the same if I dont stay with trad look.

I'm sure my boss wont like a Pinto cam cover in next to the sunday roast though.

I left it out in the sun for a few hours . I'm sure it will gas off when he starts his car for the first time, he will just need to keep the garage open!

Remember that time I ovened the Focus headlights to split them apart, the misso still brings that up at parties and BBQs, house reeked of cooking plastic for days , way worse than 3d printing fumes haha

an oven in the shed might be the go, good idea'.
Plus you could always bang some sausage rolls in at the same time.

I fired up my cheap diesel heater on the weekend for the first time and cooked the freshly painted struts in the jet stream it put out. Mind you the exhaust pipe was even hotter.

Usually I just warm up any spray cans in some hot water for 5 minutes. The paint always cures more like a powder coated job, and the increased pressure and thinner paint ensures the nozzle doesnt club or splatter either.

I had an epiphany the other day and heat cured the exhaust manifold in the bbq oven. Perfect

Managed to pick up a sand blaster for a bargain $120! So I stripped down my door handles and gave them a hit and they came up pretty good, youll notice the drivers side handle has chrome plate, that was painted black and put on the car due to the original one snapping. The sand blaster did a good job of removing most of the left over chrome plating, it still needs a bit more work.

I've put the blaster on my rolling bench so I can take it outside when it's time to use it so i don't mess up the garage too much, just from that one use inside I could see a fine layer of dust getting spread about plus my lungs will thank me.

In other news my old man is in the UK and has picked up my new type 9 gears, so once he gets them back here I'll be able to put the box back together for the most part and put it to the side. Still waiting for a bearing kit from the RS shop so hopefully that comes soon too.

That's a great idea, I'm going to give that a shot next time I rip out a rattle can!

Good work on the handles, what's the grit used in the blaster? I used garnet for ever then was told to go black iron grains and it's rubbish. I'm converting mine to vapour blast and will use glass beads next time mixed with garnet. Less pressure, less mix and a great finish most of the time

It looks like a 3060, the bloke couldn't remember. I tried it on a scrap aluminum part and it's too aggressive for it so I'll swap it out for glass bead at some point and it will be less dusty too.

Yep 30/60 is fine for metal, maybe reduce pressure for ally , glass bead will be best of both worlds.

The door handles came out great.

A sand blaster would be pretty cool to have.
I thought I was doing ok getting my first air compressor a few years ago, then wondered how I lived without it for so long.
