New Capri Member - Melbourne Australia

Hi All
I'm Roger, Nottingham Ex pat now in Melbourne Australia
In the market for a 3.0 or 2.8i Mk 3 Capri
its looking like I will import one from back home, bit thin on the ground Downunder!!
Doing my homework and watching the UK websites
I will ask questions, might sound a bit daft to a few. Tbh long as I get the right answers
Cheers
Roger

Hello Roger, Im in Melbourne, also (long term) ex pat.  Best thing to do is join Capri Club of Victoria.  We have about 10 mk3's in our club - Australia only got Mk1's.  I have access to an exceptional MK3 available in Melbourne, message me your number and ill arrange a viewing

Capri The car I always promised myself

    Hi GTV6
    Thank for spotting this one
I called the dealer Friday last week. Its not as clean as it looks sadly
    History.
Owned by an expat mechanic in WA, came into the dealer via auction
Rust in one of the sills.
Dealer swears its not bad, said he has a photo of the rust but the advert doesnt show anything
I asked for a picture of said rust..still waiting!
I have asked around regarding the rust, a capri friend here in Melb said he thinks its a sign of bigger rust issues into the body and behind the C pillar
It needs more work than I can do
    Cheers, Roger

Hi Roger that's a shame.  I have been watching them on ebay UK and thought that considering exchange rate and shipping costs it's probably a reasonable price if its in good cond.  Best of luck with the hunt.  Unfortunately not too many here in Aus, maybe have a look at the NZ web sites.

Mandurah is about 45 min from Perth but next time I am down that way I will have a look, I'm curious about it now.

Spoke to the 'dealer' last thursday 4th May
Asked him for photos of the rust and location
Today he called me to ask if wanted to buy the car
So, for the 3rd time I said I need to see photos
He sent me the pictures of the Gumtree advert which are mobile phone pics
Way too blurry, not close enough!
    So one last try today.11/5
He managed to get off his backside and took the pics
Rust in the wheel arches not the sills as he first described
Also big tear in front passenger seat. ( can be fixed, easily enough)
He checked google saw its a valuable car over here and got stars in his eyes
    Wont negotiate
Am in Melbourne and cant be effed
Worth you going to check it out and work on his get rich quick scheme
He is a small time dealer, not a big one

Re the ones on Ebay UK
They look good and have a resto history which is invaluable
Shipping/ Customs and Quarantine bills look reasonable
Best to get underside of car pressure washed and interior steam cleaned
Then get it checked for asbestos in clutch plate and brake pads B4 shipping out
Will save a bit of time here
