Steering rack, advice please

Hi,
The steering rack on my 1970 V6 had developed some play in it on the driver's side. I have never worked on a steering rack and am really not confident enough to dismantle it. I can find no where in Australia that supplies recon racks or offers to recondition them. The only source appears to be Burtons on an exchange basis, a time consuming and expensive exercise. Is there anyone out there who can offer advice or point me in the right direction re: a recon rack or someone who can rebuild mine? Much appreciated.

I can rebuild the rack, I've done 100s and converted to quick rack . Capri uses some different parts to escort but I should be able to sort it. I'm in SA near Mawson lakes , give me a PM

From what I know you can add or subtract a shim on the driver's side for play to fix it up. A better option is to change the original bearings. Makes it much smoother.
