Yeah Robbie, I'm guessing they wont be Performance Mls on the white van, despite it being an Aus rego and therefore Performance possibly being easier for us to get. I have their 14" on the Capri, and already dont like how large a diameter the centre face flange gets as the wheel size increases, and the spokes are proportionally shorter. From the ones i've seen, alot of the time after 14" they to go to 10 spokes instead of 8, which to my eyes make the wheel look like a mouth full of granny teeth.(IMHO!) Thanks Marty, I know someone would pick it up. I had messed around with the arches on and off a few times, and took a number of photos in between. Funny thing is the bubbles are Magnums, with stickers and part numbers, but as you buy them in pairs (or set of 4), there's bugger all reference I can find to see which specific guard goes on what side. Fronts are easy to determine, but the rears at least can fit the van just as crudely either way. I have seen examples each way. "Hook" is meant to go to the front?

I was thinking maybe 8" on the back and 6" on the front? I reckon it needs the offset more than the actual overall width of the wheel? Once the arches are on, and I get an idea if the diff (BW?) should be kept or swapped, when we'll know how wide to go.

Go 8s all round, and run slightly skinnier tred on the front. With the flares, the fronts are simple, just line up the lower body crease and the front should have a dip for the front bumper hole . Rear arches has the sharp hook at the front, like old time caravans then the body lines will fall into place with the flares, vans are the same as coup,. Measure from the door jam to the flare arch to get them equal. Forgot to say to load the boot up with friends so you get the ride height where you want and adjust the arch to look right . Check, measure, check . 👍👍

an update from weekend 5, the impromptu lockdown meant family commitments could not go ahead, so I unfortunately had to spend a fair bit of it in the garage. Welding is continuing to improve. I bought new tips for the first time, after getting a serious block. My gloves looked like a bunch of burn snags, particularly the left hand that I use to hold the gun. Some clever bloke worked out this, so you can buy a pair of one glove. So I got some 'Lefties' It seems like you go 1 glory job to every 5 if your lucky. So this weekend I cut and welded on the front passenger bubble as the fun job. I used a handheld joddler? /punch from Metal Man tools for the first time. It chomped through the bubble arch easily, but the flange depth of the joggle isnt very deep, lucky if it was 10mm. This meant the matching spotweld punch whole was corresponding closing to the panels also. I thought I may blow through being so close, but all turned ok. A skim of filler, then etch prime on the inside and out. The crease fold down the hip line needs some work, as does each bottom side of the guard.

some more pics. The rear of the inner sill box bit was thin in spots, so I cut it out and replaced a section. I just about have something to weld the sill in place to. Why do people plug up rust holes with no more gaps then paint over? Ps. Can we get an update on what everyone else is up to, so you don't have to just read about my van :) ? Post here!

Your doing well there Deano, lock-in time is shed time! When Adel done it for 2x days I quickly steelo padded the ute and painted it the next day I painted it... In shed white enamel just so it's 1 colour, only used 1ltr for the complete cab but it's only till I do the full conversion sometime soon. On a good note I've got a buyer for the mk1 coup shell once painted that's been on the rotisserie dormant for a year so I will be getting back into that one

no real updates on the van, but I may have inadvertently found an engine, and gearbox, and diffs, and 21"wheels, and interior and... well, a 2 lt, factory 185 kw turbo 4 cylinder thats currently 4wd with 4000kms/9 months old We had a mishap over the weekend, and the car is written off, t-bared at 100kms/hour. The four of us emerged ok, but 7 broken ribs. I dont know yet what the insurance buy back option is worth, but a van with the boxer engine would sound pretty cool. Would be an easy transplant for sure...

Woh, Deano, Glad you all escaped relatively unscathed, it always impresses me how well modern cars stand up to this sort of accident, even more so to a 4WD impact. I'm glad you are soldiering on with your project as it gives me something to enjoy catching up on. I have been making progress on the Capri however too slow to be worth posting.

cheers Blue, the alternative isnt too exciting so I'm glad to be above ground. It turns out that intersection is a blackspot that is being pushed for classification and remedy. Apparently you need 5 fatalities, but they are only up to 3 so far.... I have about 3 weeks on another project, then the escort van can resume. Decision has been made, all running gear from the 2L will be taken off and installed on the van. I might put up so yes or no posts on each before changin over, to make sure I'm upgrading and not going backwards.

Who puts up these stupid rules, need 5 fatalities, does the rta have a tally board with all road corners deaths... Just pathetic. But on the other hand if a mp gets dead on a corner it's instant restructure the roads there. On a good note we're glad your still above ground and ok.
As with installing the new running gear from the broken car, the simplest way would be to cut the floors and bulkhead off both cars and swap lids over. I've seen this with mk1 Escort with a full Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 floor, his only complaint was wiper blade chatter at 176MPH ! A local Adelaide hills guy did similar in 1994 using a rolled Laser tx3 4x4 turbo floor mated to his mk2 Escort, the length was slightly longer but a chop in the less strain area and also a set of mild arches kept the Laser tx3 wheels tucked away, fast sleeper..

agreed Marty. We found out the last fatality was a few years ago, so due for another soon. Some good might come out, as there was a petition group after the last death. When my wife's head gets sorted, she is going to try and re raise this intersection for attention. We were 4 adults, and allparents also. Anyhow, I checked our car, chassis rails (well, it doesnt have them, but floorpan is twisted as you'd suspect.) Lots of interesting pics to see how the car deformed, yet remained structurally spaced out correctly. Glass roof did not break, and rear electric tailgate still opened. The car would actually still drive. My wife even got a impact bruise in the shape of seat stitching from the seat bolter airbag going off. I have been told Porsche might want the car back to examine. some pics

Didn't realize it was a Porsche.. I'd been working on a 2018 Cayanne the last couple weeks which is on its way to Perth now. I repaired the rear suspension so it was good enough to load on the truck/train.. Gotta say they are built rock solid. If you all was in a ve or falcon that corner would've got the quota to be fixed plus a couple spare..

I'm another that's been doing a lot of reading of other poster, but not contributing much of my own. I'm currently collecting bits for my C20xe build to go in the motorkhana car, so not that exciting. Re the hit; modern cars are amazing. I work in road crash rescue as a day job. I'll often see people 'step' out of accidents once we 'pop' a door, that only a few yrs ago, would have been a certain fatality. We even get notified by the vehicles themselves post accident, giving us a GPS location. On arrival, the steering wheel, and peddles will be retracted and a remote person is talking (or attempting) to, the driver via the entertainment system.... Side curtain airbags have made a huge improvement on outcomes for side impacts. Shaun
