Hi guys.

Danté from South Africa here.
I found this thread while searching for 3D printed options for my MK1 Escort Air vents.

Here is hoping that Musher96 is still around so that I can print myself two Air vent covers.

the gearlever bush for my van fell apart when I looked at it the wrong way, and  Yesterford are closed for a few weeks. So it got me back onto the  hunt for 3D print files for the Escort, I was hoping to print a mockup to make do.

Not sure if anyone has seen this guy making a 1/12 3D printed model, but its turning out very nice!

Maybe we need a CF 3d parts file share library.
All I can contribute car wise so far is just the file for  brake/clutch peddle bushes.
(oh, and the file for Netgain Hyper 9 elec motor 1:1) :)

Hehe a bubble 12th scale mk1 Escort would fit nice on your Landy rock crawler !!

I also have a 3de printer but have no idea on loading files from metrathingyverse whatever so it's been shelved since 2018 !
I need a person here to show me the way to get it in action.. I'm not an IT knowledged person so don't say to do this or that on here unless you can translate it into engine, body, paint, interior, or I will pass out from technician overload and not have a clue .!
It's a shame cause the 3de printer has a 300x300x 280 build area too..

Compress it to a ZIP file and upload the ZIP file.

That might work.

Getting back to your gear stick bush, forget escort parts, look for falcon XD to XF 4 or 5 speed bush, same part..

My printer isn't very expensive $250 or so from banggood cause my theory was if it (or me) can drive it I may buy a bigger better one later on.

I use a lappy as much as I use a vacuum cleaner , hardly ever !

good idea Chuff, I made a zip but no go either.
Any other file transfer suggestions?
I have the minilight file, capri clutch peddle bush, and also an escort Mk1 body file available.

Thanks Marty, I'll looks at Falcon lever bush.
I'm onto about my 3rd Dyson at the moment, they are the best. Mrs hates it when I turn the lounge room shag pile into Old Trafford patterns.

3D printing can get pretty frustrating, with alot of variable that effect everything, worse than trying to learn to weld.
We are using our second 3d printer at work (Makerbot) , and even at about $12k, its still a learning curve and susceptible to how you set the job up. Yours is a good size Marty, but you can also do bigger jobs by using a program (like slicer) to slice them up into bits. Weird part is, after you chop them, it makes allowances for the chop in each part, and when reglued, it comes out the original dimensions (hopefully).

I really love the idea of 3d printing, i helps bring such a OEM touch to things. I found oem styled coin holder on thingyverse and had a guy from marketplace print it for me to put in the toyota.

How do you start on making something like this? 3d scan a blank or the actual item? measure and build it in a program?

Its a whole new world to me

Robbie, I'm not sure if this will help ( coming from an anti-tech giza) , I seen somewhere on YT where on the iphone 47 , current and last model plus some other brands etc, there's a scan tool in the phone which can 3d scan an item and it can be downloaded into a file and possibly use it in the 3d print, once size has been calculated.
There maybe scan apps for other phones like Mandroid etc .
Deano, that's the way, making cricket pitch lawn tartan patterns in the shag pile, haha. Also like the mini minilites !
Deano 2, do you watch Odd Autos, they've find a Escort mk1 campervan they're going to try to make it the fastest escort van in UK , 140+mph .

I havent used a phone scanning app, as I still have on old Sumsung android, but there does seem to be more Apple options available.
For Robbies coin tray, where you'd start would be using a basic program like Tinkercad. Its free, and is surprisingly useful and organic once you get an idea how it thinks. They use it for kids at school, but its easy to learn  without getting overly frustrating and is often my go to. Once you get a bit of a handle on it, its the type of program you can just fully exploit all it can do because you can just about fully master it, if that makes sense. Try something simple, all  of the bits below I have made from scratch are done just using Tinkercad.
https://www.tinkercad.com/dashboard
Draw it up, and save it. The program lets you then "export' it to a printer, making it into an *.stl file which is what you need. Having a cheap digital vernier set is really helpful. Files get stored online, and can be shared.
If there's something you want done, give us some dimensions, or have a rough crack and we can all help 'fix it' online!
The coin tray has curves both ways, but it can be done.
Some examples, Boat parts, model boat keel, I did an MGF drivers mirror adjuster lever thing  which looked flashy

Marty, haven't seen Odd Auto's for a while, but I don't mind those 2 guys.
I liked the Mk1 and Mk2 they did.
It would be much easier if we were in the UK, and not stuck on an island.
We have just found 'Binge" and on that is all of the Full Custom Garage episodes.
That is my motivator when I need to get some welding zen.
Ian is a wizard, better than Fitzy even.
