Wow it's been a bit too long since an update on this project, yes it is still progressing albeit slowly over the last couple of years, I bought a '76 Transit and got side tracked getting that back on the road.

Now its time to start back on the Capri, I'm wanting to get the headers made before pulling the engine out to finish the body work.
I bought 2 flange plates and a box of mandrel bends to cut and weld into some headers, trying as best as I could to get them equal length. I have gone with mild steel as there is less chance they will crack, they will be ceramic coated before final fit up.

With the engine being a V configuration with oval ports it was near impossible to see where the centre of the port was when test fitting the primary pipes. I decided to weld short stub sleeves onto the flange plates that the pipes could slip into for alignment, the theory was to get the individual pipes made then cut off the stubs, reshape the primary pipe end and finally weld them directly to the flange.
Firstly had to work our primary pipe routing and length using trusty pool hoses.

I found this tube marking tool idea on YouTube, it works a treat to assist in working out the cut angles to mark them out.

There wasn't enough room to fit 3 pipes on one side of the steering shaft unfortunately so this is what I came up with, a heat shield will be made for the starter motor and steering shaft later.

And the right side fits, now to make the left!

Nice job on the pipes, liking that degree tool as well, cool idea. I've got a bit of a soft spot for Trannit vans, early 70s ones mainly..

Another one out of the wood work!!

Like the old transit. What engine is in in 200 / 250 cu or other?

The degreee finder looks like a handy bit of kit.
