Thanks guys, as I said I gave into my obsessive compulsive side on this one. I'm blaming the Falcon GT nationals held in Perth a couple of weeks back, next level stuff, cars showing detailed drum brake innards, lol. Gave me a bit of drive to lift my game. Drew the line at having the part number sticker re-made, although I did manage to keep it for later.
Cheers Drew

We're looking at property in the south west/ margaret river region to retire one day so I have to decide whether I want to be hurtling around the wine region with a hot engine or just cruising with a standard setup and air conditioning.
Looking at throwing 'the lot' at the bottom end to future proof it if I do decide to go silly in the end. Plenty of time to decide...

Hi Drew
A big part of why I sold my Mk1 was because of the worked pinto with twin 45's in there. The car was quite simply hard to enjoy with the fumes and noise. The power was fantastic but if I had the chance all over again I would have kept the car as a cruiser with the mild pinto which was a professionally rebuilt bottom end (mahle pistons), Crow 26874 mild cam, castings & dags removed from head ports, electronic ignition, rejetted 32/36. The 38DGAS I put on afterwards sounded a lot throatier and gave a good kick on open throttle but acceleration remained the same, this was proven with my 1/4 mile times.

Fun and games over the weekend.
Went to start the car up over the weekend but no luck. It'd been running a bit flat last time I drove it but I put it down to tune and just wound a bit more mixture into it
On closer inspection its drawn a heap of dirt from the tank. The tank was sourced during the build and I saw it coming so I installed an extra filter before my fancy regulator/ filter. Didn't think it'd be this bad though. The tank was scrubbed and vacumned, rinsed and flushed before installation to no avail. Pulled the pump apart, thats spottless and the gauze filters on the carbs are clean too so it doesn't look like its reached the carbs. Might pull the tops off later today to be sure theres nothing in the bowls...
Cheers Drew

I wasn't planning to take the car to any shows but I though it'd look good next to its garage mate the orange Cortina at the Perth All Ford Day. You never know maybe the MK1 GT will join them next time.
Cheers Drew.

Its been a while, so I thought I'd do a quick update on the car. I've been driving the car regularly and with a few thousand kms now its running nicely. The golf course shut for a couple of weeks over the covid lockdowns so I took the chance to give it a nut and bolt check over, fix an annoying rattle from the parcel shelf and fit a new started motor. The old one was slowly giving up the ghost and whilst it hadn't left me stranded it was only a matter of time.
A couple of gratuitous glamour pics...
