Not much has changed with the car lately.
Mostly ive just been driving it and enjoying it as much as the weather will allow.
ended up driving it at times when i wish i didn't, got stuck driving it xmas day in the 39 degree heat, which was less then ideal when stuck in traffic on the freeway.

2017 has a few upgrades on the cards if i can be motivated enough.
Got a billet compressor wheel for the turbo which should liven it up a little, A set of Forged rods to replace the std items that somehow havent bent yet, a new Inlet camshaft with a little more duration to hopefully let it breath higher in the rpm range, might finally convert the front to a adj coilover setup and work to get the alignment and bumpsteer 100% and if i get really bored it may even see another set of wheels

so SFS2017 was a success, typical me with less then 2 weeks till the show i decided that the BBS's had seen almost all the shows in the last 2 years so i was after something a little fresh and different.

being the poor bloke that i am buying wheels was not an option on such late notice. and id been through almost all the 'common' escort wheels, superlites, saab chasers, hotwires, ghia wheels. but having seen some wheels that had been sitting for years at a mates place off another mates racecar had me thinking.
13x8 CSA Milano's

a quick test fit was unsuccessful, with the rear wheels hitting the calipers. Then i found out that there were in fact 2 different offsets. swapped them around and bingo. Grabbed some tyres from the stock pile and set about cleaning them up.

bit of a before and after

Final fitment and polished and ready

got the car out recently for a motorkhana display and passenger ride day for Toyota Australia (i know its not a toyota). Had about 20 odd people came in the car throughout the day as passengers, aside from my wastegate bolts coming loose and that pesky crank wiring had a pretty good day.

Also had the car out for our clubs good friday run, which we had a huge turn our for. 26 cars in total

Time to fix my wiring loom hopefully and get the car out for another motorkhana in May

well this has been a long time coming, almost 2 years
bit of a run down.
Drove the car interstate a few times, did some motorkhanas ect.
Blew gearbox no.7
decided enough was enough
cut the floor out - immediately regrated doing that
found all the parts I had been stock piling for a strong gearbox conversion
realised I had to do a bunch on engineering work to make any of it fit/work
car sat for 6 months
2 month power build to have it done for Small Ford Sunday 2019

ill see if I can upload some pics

size comparison between the 5psd mx5 box and the chev case T5

got the grinder out

T5 gearbox nose machined down to fit the std mx5 throw out bearing and fork

starting to mock up the tunnel, wanted to keep the heater core and centre console, which made it 'fun'

Tunnel done and passenger floor heat proofed to save the mrs shoes

Custom set up to utilise std mx5 fork and clutch setup

60mm+ too long on the input shaft so it was swapped for a firebird 26 spline unit and further shortened

box given the once over and finally reassembled, 2 weeks from show

new fancy clutch, all the bite

3 days before the show, got it all in and working, I will always say, bonnetless test runs are the best

Didnt realise this place was still up and about,
still have the car
still wasting plenty of money on it

things that have happen in the last 18 months

  • Full rewire of both body and engine, new haltech elite ecu, dbw conversion. pdm controlling the electrics, bulkhead connectors, tefzel wire all the fancy crap.
  • swap to sequential fueling and ignition. r35 gtr coils and 1150cc injectors
  • New turbo, Garret GTX3071R gen2
  • Back to the dyno 4 days before SFS2020, 265rwkw at 19psi
  • Club road trip to SA for the RSOCsa 10th anniversary show, plenty of driving
  • rona virus
  • old faithful motor finally had enough, spat no.1 conrod out the side
  • rona virus
  • fitting up new engine i had been collecting parts for years for. 20tho block, factory crank, billet main caps, arp studs, manley rods, CP pistons, billet oil pump gears.
  • fresh cylinder head from Wozzah (old one was soft) +1mm valves, big heavy springs, ported ect.
  • All in and running, still havent had it back to the dyno for all the boost yet. soon
think thats the most of it. ill see how many pictures i can find
