Well today has been a pretty sh!tful day, started off good, brilliant weather in melbourne, thought id take the car out for the day to enjoy what might be the last of the good weather, went for my physio appointment ( mechanics back, yay ) only to come out afterwards to the front of my car having been hit. no note, no onearound. I managed to bend the front back enough to make the hour trip home without destroying the front tyre. Parked the car up only to notice a small drip of milky oil from where the radiator normally breathes to. Opened the bonnet took off the rad cap and bamm, chocolate milkshake. not have a good time

Commiserations mate!! Is the milkshake from your dyno day effort? Enjoyed watching the show but not with an ending like that. Len

Weekend just passed thought id try my hand at a proper motorkhana. It was a very last minute idea, only entering on the friday night. turned out it was one of the rounds of the Victorian NGK championship, which i didnt realise till i got there and saw the competition. As far as prep went, with the motor still providing plenty of milkshakes and myself having still not looked into it properly, i drained the coolant/oil and refilled it with some fresh water and that was it. The event was at the Toyota manufacturing plant in Altona on a sealed surface, which was the big win. about a 45-50 minute drive from where i live. Got up the in the morning and it was a lovely 0 degrees, i have never been so thankful to have the car garaged. Tho it was a bit grumpy till it got some temp. The drive was a touch fresh to say the least, with air temps into the engine never going above 3 degrees got there, unpacked my boot (toolbag, jack and spare tyre) , attached my handbrake lever extension and that was it, ready to go. Had an absolute blast of a day, even tho it was so damn cold. Got to do 10 different layouts in total, some relatively easy, others very tricky with sections needed to be done in reverse and then opposing directions aronud the same cone. I was doing fairly well in my class until i let a little be too much of the animal loose and managed to collect 5 cones on one layout meaning my time was almost doubled. Best part of the day was the fact that nothing broke and i was able to make the drive home, winner

After the last motorkhana i decided to try and fix my oil into coolant issue. I discovered it was due to the factory oil cooler rupturing and leaking into the cooling system. I had been wanting to put a 'proper oil cooler on the car for some time so this was a good opertunity. I decided that i should run a thermostated oil cooler due to the car getting driven a bit in winter and on long hwy runs, last thing i need is engine wear due to cold oil temps next problem was where to mount the cooler core, luckily i had already chopped the lower valance panel of the car so i did some more trimming and slotted it in the front panel. Last problem i found out the hard way, the new oil filter seal area was now larger then the seal on the standard spec oil filter, only just, just enough to hold oil till it got hot, then emptied its contents on my driveway. So an hour or so was spent on the ryco oil filters website digging through the listings trying to find a suitable oil filter with the correct dimensions, seal diameter and thread pitch. i got lucky and now run an oil filter made for a puegeot, yuck puegeot..

That's a pretty chunky cooler. Certainly a lot thicker than PWR

Matt, Its a DERALE sandwich plate, from the US of A, just have to work out which one is closest to what you need. Ratta, The core is about 50mm thick, seems the smaller you get them in Length by height the thicker they get.

Weekend before last was the RSOC motorkhana up in Bendigo, as usual i figured id drag the old girl out for a good 300km roadtrip and a day of thrashing in between. Car was absolutely faultless which was nice as i was also running around all day taking photos for the club, so didnt have time for it to be playing up. Even managed to win the class i was in and come 5th overall, Not a bad day out managed to hand over the camera get someone to take a few shots of me from a couple of tests. and i finally wore out those poor old toyos Must admit i thought they had more on them then they eneded up with, was a bit worried it was going to rain on the way home.

Which leads me to todays purchase a fresh set of Hankook Ventus RS3's in 195/50R15, Had been hearing alot of good feedback about these tyres and as i was able to get them on a very good rate i thought that they would be perfect for street/fun duties i will report with my findings of traction

finally got a good chance to test out the new tyres on the weekend. Got a good run in all weather conditions really quite surprised with the level of grip in both the dry and especially in the wet. The grip drop off was really linear in both the wet and dry.

mish your car looks great and sits perfect. It was partly the proof that convinced me how good a 4 door can look. (Yesterday JBW minilights arrived (4 days from uk!) Spoiler, bumperettes and a few other bits are on their way.)
