My MK1 did a 2.2sec 60ft with cold street radials, tyre pressure 30psi. Standard diff & clutch.
I imagine launches are a totally different world with boost

Yeah had a bit of trouble finding the spot where it wouldnt bog down once i dropped the clutch but also not too higher rpm to distroy the box.

I had the same bogging issue with the Webers. They don't respond well when going from idle to full open throttle. Took me about 5 runs to figure it out, just needed to have my revs up on the line, around 2500rpm

another weekend another 350km round trip, this time for the annual RSOCvic motorkhana.

aside from a vac blanking plug coming off and the car idling @3000rpm for a second the day was faultless.

still not sure how this gearbox is holding its **** together....

Ok long time no post,

Its broken again, another geabox, broke it on the street on the way to Calder Park friday night drags, slicks weren't even on the car, still on the back seat. At least i saved the $80 entry....

So i have already found another sacrificial box at a whopping cost of $68 (slab of pale ale) it will be going in the car shortly.

But it will hopefully be the last broken box as i have bitten the bullet and started gathering parts for a much much (hopefully) stronger set up.

First Piece of the puzzle acquired, Quicktime Steel Bellhousing, adapt to chev pattern t5

then came the hard part of finding a chev pattern t5, i have finally found one and its on its way

now to work out shifter locations, clutch disc centres, tailshaft lengths and clutch release mechanisms.
going to be a slow project i think

Saturday passed i figured id been without the car for long enough and decided it was time to start swapping another mx5 box into the car to get my through the good cruising weather and show season.

first job in the new garage

in my hast to want to do the job i was without an engine crane so i thought it would be a grand idea to drop the motor out through the bottom.

BAD IDEA....  half a day later and many curse words later, a few pulled helicoils from the xmember mounts, a couple of stripped bolts and a real dodgy jacking effort to get the car hight enough the engine was out.

i remember why ive never done it this way

NEVER AGAIN, the car will have the xmember and suspension re installed and the motor and box will go back in from the top.

what was i thinking....

now to sort out bolting the xmember back in somehow and off to the bolt place i go. this modified car thing is fun.

Timely post - I have an engine and gearbox to go back in soon. It wasn't much fun getting them out together from the top, so I was thinking of trying to put them in from the bottom.  In light of your comments maybe I'll get the gearbox in position from below, put the engine in from the top, and try and mate them before bolting everything down.

You've done well with only a jack. A block and tackle, or a hoist and a good cradle with wheels to roll the motor and gearbox around on make it a bit easier

mk2 2dr club car. pinto, stage 1 valves, rl31 cam, gsxr 600 tb running  MS2 extra. :-)))

Major surgery going on there! Supercheap at least twice a year will do half price on the SCA engine cranes. About $200 on special. Mines been going well for a few years now.

I passed on the SCA crane because they didn't have swiveling wheels on the front (when the legs are up), and a little cross bar to push it around with, both of which are handy. It's also red, so it gets engines in and out faster! I think I paid about $270 delivered (heavy!), so it was cheaper than SCA's regular price too.
