Well today i got off my arse and started to put my plan into action,
like all good things, it gets worse before it gets better. Heres to hoping i can still use all the boot trimming when im done

back to this

amazing what some plywood and fabric can hide.

also found a loverly crack in the boot flooring, right at the closest part of the exhaust over the diff, seems it doesnt like the heat and strain.

always liked the look of an escort without a drop tank

still undecided on how much if any of the boot floor to cut out and how high to run the tank up into the boot.

would really like to move all my pumps and filters and swirl pot away from the cabin of the car, aswell as seal of the boot completely by making a panel that goes behind the rear seat and up over the parcel shelf

Looks much tidier.

Is that 3 inch over the diff?

Yeah shaun 3inch over the diff, will be a little less tidy once i start cutting the floor to make way for the new tank, going to try and keep it as high as possible. and keep more of the fuel system out of the boot.

More progress with gathering parts for some changes that are being made

first off i have ordered a new fuel cell. 12gal (46L) Polly, foam filled which i will be picking up this weekend coming.

also after looking at what actually still is relivant in my gauge cluster, (tacho only) i have decided to build a new cluster using after market gauges.
The gauges i have chosen a few of you may be familiar with, they are the Speedhut items that you can customise almost endlessly to suit your needs. with changeable bezels, needle pointers, numbering font, colour, back light colour, logos ect.

but in my usual boringness i have chosen to keep the look clean and simple opting for the following

very plain and boring but will be nice and clear to read and will not stand out overly much from what the std gauges look like.

Best part of these Speedhut Revolution gauges is the set-able warning lights and a peak recall function.

But the icing on the cake for me was the new GPS speedo they offer. Without the need to run a speedo cable and the issues i would have with calibration when running different sets of rims/tyres, the gps speedo fixes all these problems

so they should come in the next couple of weeks hopefully, still got to work out the layout i wish to run.
any suggestions welcome, there will be 2x 85mm gauges and 4x 52mm gauges.

today a little more progress was made, got out what seems to be my favourite tool (the grinder) and went to town cutting up the boot floor.

which left me with this hole.

It took a little more tinkering with the hole size as i found with the tank being polly it is not 100% square and such.

it fits..

tank will most likely sit a fraction higher into the boot so not to be as visible and to match the hight of the new surge tank and pump setup that will be installed.

thanks matt, it will be a much neater and nicer setup once done then the original setup i made for when it was a daily. also looking forwards to less fuel slosh and having a drain on the tank.

little bit more progress with the tank mounting, was able to use a welder for an hour so knocked together the floor bracing box and the tank straps.

still have to go around the edges of the boot flooring with some form of rubber seal to make it all weather tight, but its 90% done now. Still waiting on fuel system parts to arrive before i can finish it off and get it running again.
