how did you get a message up yesterday?
I wrote an essay and it locked up and went to buddha.
For now I might just not connect the T handle to the bars and incognito something else.
 
The indicator stalk worked fine, its nice to see the icons even, so thumbs up on that cheap upgrade.
Plus it auto cancels now too.
 
I'll admit to making a dogs breakfast of the headlight install previously. Using 'generic' headlight buckets wasnt a good idea, as the panels cutouts in the Express Panels front were too large, and despite persisting and making 1 set from 2, it was a failure and the lenses didnt sit right or have adjustment.. Plus round buckets did not have the correct grill supports moulded as the proper escort ones did. So it was a case of unbutchering the escort ones, and refitting. 
 
In the end, headlights are in, with adjusters, and the grill fits. Although I'm not sure if I'm missing a clip or block for the end of the grill to screw into? It all presses into shape, if it was screwed in properly.

Driving light brackets and fake Cibies were done last night:

Wagon looks good with the cibie covers and mounting bkts .

Yup I must've got the last post in before the site had a religious experience for a day !
After cutting up a steering rack U mount and making it so it will be able to tighten up without bottoming out , test fit on the car a few times so it's in the right position

Once all that was welded up I decided it was to be painted in car color. I didn't paint it there, it's where I found a spot for it to hang and dry


Here it is in the car, took a but if effort and a few tries to line up in the uni coupling

Ignition all in like it was meant to be there

Tomorrow might be the fuel tank and possibly start to assemble a door with glass and channel flocking I bought from Rare Spare supplies so it might meet be correct .

Hi guys.
I have been hopping on regularly to se the progress of your builds.
But a bit like you said Deano, I read and don't feel any comments are useful besides, looking good guys, your efforts are worth it!
The project MK2 is nearly back together, I re-configured the whole intercooler setup and that's a story in itself. I now have a (slightly modified) iLoad intercooler in a YB powered Escort, (heathen). As an aside I have used PWR before and their stuff is great but I drew the line at 2 1/2K for a custom unit that I wouldn't be happy about putting where I was going to anyway.
 
Hope you guys all have a safe and merry Christmas and I will attempt to be a bit more active on the site in the new year.

Merry Xmas and all that malarkey, yes I totally hate the whole Xmas old enough to know it's a sham where buying stuff for rellies which they don't need etc. Our family has said to not do presents but we do get together for the yearly catch-up, gifts optional.

Hey Mark don't knock the iload van, they're super reliable, our work one had done 500k,kms with the last 30k having a hole in the intercooler , plus if something off the 'shelf' fits for your needs and will do the same job as good for 1% the price, that allows to spend cash in more areas that you wouldn't have.

Now to my day, yesterday Xmas Day, I did a BBQ for tea and done some stuff on the mk1 while the meat was cooking , as you do. First up was get the fuel tank out and clean it up a little, then remove the rh tail light as it's in the way and simply install the tank, all went well except I've gotta pull it out again as I forgot the vent pipe which is on the dark side . I also done some grinding but that was after 5pm , so if time allows before we go out for lunch today (boxday) I'll make a start and see how I go. Here's a pic, and the super spare tyre went in !

Looking good mate, this thing is absolutely flying together. That key mod is awesome, new / used barrels are nearly impossible to find, even finding a ignition switch took me almost a year and I just got lucky with the NOS one. 

I wonder if there is a switch that could be modded to work?

Thanks Mark, the ign barrel was a decent fit. I did read that mk2 housings don't fit mk1, well they don't but it just needs the mounting bkt to fit. Also I have about 5 ign sets and none have keys but can be working with a key wiggle, the focus/fiesta mod is pretty good I reckon.
Switch? You mean the block behind the barrel with the wires? Late Transit van 2000s might be something to investigate into maybe..

Well a Happy New Year to all who's aboard and hope your not as half cut as I am today, home at 4am and 4hrs of sleep, fantastic !!

Working on the fuel tank yesterday removing it again and doing some trimming to done edges that clashed with the car bodywork frame behind the hinge panel, mk1 thanks are tight as they are but as I've attached a filler neck right in the way make it a squeeze to install and revive. Here's why I needed to remove it, the vent pipe was forgot about but is now installed correctly but with minor mods and bending.

Also while fiddling about with the tank I got a rubber seal gasket to measure and print in TPU, it's a but harder than the rubber so I'll need to reduce it's thickness to it's right, I do have a spare rubber one but while it's out I'll do testing...

And finally got making/designing the indicator cancel cams for the column, mine was melted from the cars internal fire, these are just a smidge too small so I've gone up 5% and just printed one off using petg .


Hey Mark has your printer hot direct feed or is it on a tube with the feeder on the side/top? They are best with it direct if possible especially when using TPU as it's flexible and the retract isn't a problem. Mine is still a work in progress and is a mess of wires but it's safe to run, these little fans might work ok but make huge noise so am reverting back to the larger style once they arrive. Home design direct feed mount in orange has been great

Fuel tank looking good, fuel system going to be stock or are you upgrading pumps etc?
 
I got the centuri carbon which is direct heat at the nozzle, this is what the hot end looks like and the feed is above it. You can buy that complete part for like $25 bucks so at some point I'll pick up a few and have different nozzles in it for easy change over.


 
I'm currently cooking up something so will post when it's done.

That's a decent hot end, you should be printing at 300-500mm/s with the about of heat it produces !
I was running a volcano style on my last printer , problem was the printer couldn't keep up and and not duty cycle or just shut down.

Can't you just buy the nozzle sizes instead of the whole hot end ? It's best to unbolt it at temp (100+deg) as the filament will be soft .
Going by my pics is a bit of a basket case arrangement right now, I've printed a new style hot end fan cover system and will be printing drag chains to tidy up things , I've also bought a new hot end with bigger fins to chill the filament before it's heated and had to get it working to make the parts to repair it !

Sounds like your enjoying designing stuff

Spent about an hour or two this rvo to clean up the rear section of the wiring loom, found a nest where maybe a towbar was tapped into for the plug, the usual soldering and shrink wrap to proper join and seal.

The while loom was stripped of old tape and will be replaced with new stuff

The other day I found the gutter chrome strips from another car I had stored for a long time, gave them a clean and polish then clipped them on. Reckon it makes the car look more classy

Mark, your question with the fuel pump arrangement, it's virtually impossible to run an in-tank pump so I'll just use an inline efi pump and filter, just thinking about it I'll need to remove the tank yet again to install a return line connector..

Yeah those in boot tanks are neat, I really like how they give more room for exhaust underneath but I was looking at it thinking there was no way to get a sender unit it it . Oh BTW look what i found! That username looked vaguely familiar!

The sender unit is very accessable from the front of the tank on the flat below the hinge , I should take a pic but I think it's shown in a previous pic.



I don't know what your talking about!
It was a tricky one to create as the lamp was built into the original holder, I just wanted something with modern connectors/sockets.
