$60 was for in-fill welding a nice chunk that got knocked out of an MR2 Spyder rim and cleaning up the gutter rash around the edge. He threw in a freebie clean up on another rim too, so it was kind-of a 2 for the price of 1 deal. Painting was an extra $100, but he contracts that out to a paint shop. All this was done by Perth Wheel Repair, which was recommended to me by a forum member. Old fashioned service at an old-fashioned facility (intended as a compliment).

Alliance are reputable, which is why they charge crack prices

I got quoted $150 a rim to repair some rash on some forged Volks I got here in Perth. What was involved at only $60/rim?

For that it included: stripping the clearcoat lip, welding the lip to build it back up, machining + repainting clear coat.

This was through Alliance Rim Repair (which seem to be pretty reputable here in Perth)

Depends on the type of rim. Simple machining is cheap, but if it's not a "dish" style rim, then painting & welding is involved, hence higher cost

$150 sounds a bit rich. I pay $80 a rim by Dave Little Welding in Dubbo NSW and he always does a truly stellar job. dont be afraid to look at specialist welding companies as they are your true professionals in anything metal. I had Dave little do one rim on my XR8 and ended up getting him to get the other three wheels shining like the one he repaired as it was standing out too much.

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a car that has gutter rash on every rim. From google/other forums it says there's places who will repair gutter rash for about $150 per rim. Does anyone have recommendations for a good place or places to avoid in Melbourne? I don't believe any rims are buckled - just very scratched up on the outer edge of the rim.

The car otherwise seems a great buy but it has some external care issues and so I'm researching.
