The problem was the connector behind the passenger seat beneath the triangular window. Cant believe it was nothing to do with getting water or working in the engine bay. Thanks nissky, learnt a lot from this process.
Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (nissky)

If you did it correctly, then it looks like you have a break on the wire going to fuel pump.
Also you shouldn't expect 12volts between fp and b, as fp is not a ground.

If you are defintely getting no voltage at fuel pump terminal under dash, with just ignition on and also with fp/b bridged.
Then I would run a direct 12volt feed from battery, and see if the car runs normally now.
Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (stuka)

nissky thanks for your help with this so far. I did what you said and had mixed results. When I checked the pump ground connection to a ground point on the chassis the reading was 0.3 ohms which I think is ok.

I didn’t get a reading at all for FP to pump + terminal when I hooked up a long wire. This lead me back to the diagnostic port again. As stated in my earlier post, the circuit between Fp and +B on the diagnostic port read 2.4 volts rather than 12 volts. However, when I checked FP on its own with my line tester, the tester didn’t light up at all, no negative, no positive, nothing.

Any suggestions or explanations would be appreciated?
Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (nissky)

How do I check connectivity from Fp to pump terminal?
Set the multimeter to measure resistance (omhs)
connect one side to FP and one side to pump + terminal.
Use a long wire to get from pump positive terminal to the multimeter.
If the FP wiring is good you should get a very small or 0 resistance, infinite/high resistance means there is a broken wire somewhere.

Can check the pump ground connection the same way, 0 resistance to metal part of the chassis.

Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (stuka)

Thanks to all for the advice so far. I have done some more investigations, bear with me as Im fairly inexperienced when it come to the black art of electrics!

I checked the circuit between Fp and +B and it read 2.4 volts, whereas the circuit between TE1 and E1 on the diagnostic box read 12 volts. When I created a circuit between +B and the ground point (EA on the wiring diagrams) behind the diagnostic box I got 12 volts. The fuses (the three in the fuse box in the engine bay) are fine and as far as Im aware the relays are fine.

I also checked the voltage on the fuel pump terminal, there was no voltage at all (there is voltage to the fuel level sender terminal). So there lies the problem. How do I check connectivity from Fp to pump terminal? I dont know how to follow this through end to end and which route to follow i.e. is it the wire harness through the grommet roughly centre of the firewall or on the harness on the passenger side?

Also, the wiring diagrams I have show a ground point (IC on the wiring diagrams) just to the left of the heater control in the centre console but I cant see one. Is this right or does it matter?
Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (nissky)

+B has 12volts? if not check fuses
if it has get a multimeter
check connectivity of the FP wire in engine bay all the way to pump terminal under dash
and check connectivity of the other pump terminal to ground

Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (jason_2901)

Shoot me a message on my mobile tomorrow mate, I may have a few ideas for you

Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (stuka)

RED the car has spark, plug wells are dry

Wiso the pump connector can be accessed in front of the gearshift and can be accessed easily so I provided power to the pump direct and it runs. Good idea with checking grounds and diagnostic. Will give that a go.

Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (wiso)

stuka
- I have powered the fuel pump via the connector and can definitely hear it running in the tank.

sorry this bit here must have got me confused.

But if you definitely CAN'T hear the pump when the FP and B+ in the diagnostic is bridged then thats bad. as that will be direct feed power to pump. so unless the wire has been cut somewhere between the Circuit opening relay and the pump, or you have a connector unplugged...? in the AW the fuel pump connector is near the opening into the engine bay.

if you have a multi meter check to see if the B+ has 12v. Ignition on of course. I know if its an engine conversion sometimes those diagnostic ports aren't wired up

Other possibility is maybe a ground that the FP uses is disconnected? on the 3S I don't know which ground point the fuel pump is. you were playing with manifold, is there a ground on those manifolds?

Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (REDMR2RED)

If you let rain get in the engine bay the spark plug holes may be full of water. Compressed air should blow it all out. If you don't have a compressor a bike pump might do the job.

Re: Car Wont Start - Tried All The Obvious Stuff (stuka)

Sorry my post might be confusing wiso.
