Thanks for the feedback guys.

I've done more reading online about Gen 1 VS subsequent generations arguments and yes, I guess the main thing is to respect the limits of the car and all should be fine. A little (controllable) amount of tail out is a heap of fun anyway.

A good set of performance tyres is the first thing I'll get should I get this car. Cheers for the heads up redtarga.

Even more important than wider wheels, with these cars it's important to fit and maintain good performance tyres.

You can modify the early model suspension to make the car less lively at the rear.
However, as has already been mentioned it's important to learn how to drive a rear engined car properly, that's the best remedy for snap oversteer IMO.

Looks like a nice example.

Its a hard top too, which is a big plus in my books.

As long as mechanically in good condition it would be a great buy.
I would look to see if there are any receipts for the work that's available and go from there.

Depending if work was done or not, I would be expecting some suspension bushes or ball joints to need replacing, as my one had less km then that and were well worn - but most of which are easlily sourced and relatively easy to install.

The steering wheels appears to be the stock one, my 1991 had the same one although my 1993 has a slightly different one.

I feel if you drive it sensibly, and to your limits you wont have troubles with it. Some people feel that the improvements made to the later one reduced the driving style of the MR2. I would drive one for yourself and you be the judge. Good quality wider tyres will definitely help - appears it already has some on.

Yes I know it's not a Gen 3 like a originally wanted, but for the price I'm interested in taking a look at it. Plus it's a GT turbo :).

I've never seen that steering wheel before, but it doesn't look aftermarket. Any ideas?

Yeah....the Gumtree guy says it's a GT Bathurst. Has to be one or the other, but it IS a Bathurst with GT foglights and larger aftermarket alloy wheels added.

Good price though if it's as good as it looks.

Still holding out hope for a nice post 93' GT to come along. Not in a rush to buy, but if that previous GT turbo would have been legit I would have pulled the trigger for sure.

Sorry mate. That car is 90 to 93 model. It was imported and complied in aus in 96 or 97.

Thanks for the heads up Blue. The tail lights didn't look quite right for a later model so I was suspicious. Not very honest advertising, but I should've known it was too good to be true.

Was the same case with my JDM GTS I bought, was advertised a a 1998 or 1997. Dropped what I was doing and went to look at it that day. Managed to talk to buyer down due to his mistaken year and walked away with the car for a great price.

Appears to be a bathurst judging by the boot lid. It seems like a nice example.

Hi all, been a while since my last post. I check carsales every few days and wanted to get some feedback on this listing.

Few red flags. For one the title says 97 MR2 but in the description he's written 96. Can chalk that up to a typo. Distinct lack of any interior pics also not ideal.

The pricing is what's got my attention though. For one it's one of the few later model Turbos for sale. Most of the stock is 90-91MY for the imported turbos. Being an import the K's are also iffy.

If I were to give him a call what sort of questions should I ask to see if it's worth a visit? Or should I stay away from this one?

Yeah thought about that, but the extra transport costs and re-rego make it less appealing. There are a couple examples to look at locally anyway that are more within budget.

All said I'm still a few good months away from buying so just keeping my Ear to the ground for the time being.

96 model will have all the extras that your after and will probably sell quickly for those low Kms.
