Was wondering because I have a spare 3sge engine sitting, wondering if I can build the head for it to drop on the 3sgte .... unsure though, if the chambers and valves are the same size though... just thinking about options.
Re: overheating issue wierd (Absy)

I've had it at, and slightly over, operating temp ... parked and watched under car for several minutes both with car on, and right after shut off, so I am fairly certain there are no leaks (even heater hoses will drip onto the plastic undercover and out), and I have a compression tester arriving sometime in the next week, so a pressure test will be my next test, the if that all checks out, Ill rip the radiator cap off the N/A and test that... but if I still can't find the problem, Ill be pulling the head off...

While It's off I will also be looking at doing some work to it (cams, springs, possibly a port n polish depending if I can find someone to do it cheap enough). Was looking at some Brian Crower cams, but was also advised to look at Camtech's gear, from what I have read of the receipts the engine has full forged internals (will confirm if / when the head comes off), the better it looks ... the more work I may do before reassembly.
Re: overheating issue wierd (lewisde)

I have been there and done that. Changed the thermostat, radiator cap, bled the cooling system. No loss of water or any exchange between the oil & water
I did a compression test and a leak down test. Car ran fine other than overheating when you got stuck into it.

The answer........................The head was warped yet this was not revealed by the tests undertaken. This took 12 months to resolve.

I didn't think this was possible given the engine had been rebuilt in the last 12 months. One of the thermo fans was not kicking in properly.

Lots of luck
Re: overheating issue wierd (Fast Eddie)

Check oil cooler/heater yet that was the problem with mine
Re: overheating issue wierd (Reddtarga)

"A common recondition for $300"

A couple of years ago I had a 'common recondition' of a 3SGE head reco that cost about $600 (dealing directly with the machine shop)
It involved a crack test, gasket surface dressed, new valve guides, seals, and valves lapped.
I thought the cost was reasonable for the work involved.

Re: overheating issue wierd (Absy)

for a common recondition (inc pressure test) was $300 ... cheap as I figure ... but $1500 for port n polish also ... that part seemed pricey to me.. so was thinking about grabbing some cams.. and possibly giving him the work.. also looking at water injection.

Might also add that was an unseen quote ... and nothing on paper ... just talking round figures.
Re: overheating issue wierd (5SGTE)

Any chance you want to share this 'too good to be true quote'?
