Yeah it's possible, they are leaking out of the bottom bleed ports that got replaced with block off nuts. need to spend some time looking into this.

pads contaiminated.. didn't know they could be, but interesting!

The Wilwood calipers I have arent' my favorite style.. I'm possibly considering just buying new calipers :P

Pads contaminated with brake fluid maybe?
In any case the calipers may need a rebuild.

If you go back to stock best to put a reco kit thru the old calipers and go to new rotors and be done with it.
My old rotors that I replaced had tiny radial cracks, and the steering used to shake badly under braking.

exactly correct. slow wear over time.

The warping feeling was after a particularly hard mountain run from very cold ( staying at Bright during the snow season).

will give it the full once over and check. I need to also buy a decent gauge to check caliper thickness.

Def thinking of going back to stock, I've still got the stock calipers and disks that were on the car. The wilwood calipers I have are a bit leaky, and haven't had a huge amount of time to suss out the cause, but will def get that sussed tomorrow.

What does the surface of your Willwood rotors look like (wear or grooving etc),
Maybe they could be resurfaced anyway.
I'm wondering how well did that front setup when you first fitted them? Slow deterioration over time?

Anyway, I assume you are thinking of going back to the stock front calipers as well.
Early brakes are the same for turbo and NA as shown below.

Turbo and N/A are same , afaik its pre 92 (small) and post 92 (bigger).

yeah I read your thread. Just wanted to make sure I was getting the right sized rotors etc for my car. is there a difference between the NA and Turbo 89-91?

It's ok I know how to flush brakes / change them. just trying to avoid warping things again.... I installed the willwoods I have on the car currently myself without any dramas. I'll prob just get some TRW pads and RDA then. But on second thoughts, will have a look at the rotors, just in case it's a bolt that's come off (they're two piece rotors...)

have a look at my thread i started a month or so ago.
i ended up just flushing and replacing the brake fluid . makes a difference for sure.
although if your shuddering on braking then somethings warped. time to replace whatever it is. RDA is the cheapest i think, look on ebay they have them listed for 89-91 i think, afaik thats the smaller brakes
i have TRW pads and they are good.
Should have come to the MR2 DIY day last month, could have done this under supervision and would have cost you $$ only in parts

there seems to be a lot of kinds of brakes... which RDA model number am I after for my car...?

If the steering wheel shudders under braking, it'll be from your (front) rotors being warped as you mentioned.
Just get a replacement set of front rotors (RDA or similar) and new pads and go from there. You also could try and get your current ones machined/skimmed if they're not too thin which would save some monay.

steering wheel shudders like F**k under braking.

DIY maintenance isn't too bad actually:) I recently did some touring round vic in it, and got 440k per tank (doing the length of the GOR on boost too :P)

it's quite good actually.

^If I was trying to save money I wouldn't own a turbo MR2, like someone once said you're forever chasing your tail doing maintenance :P

I know... I'm trying to save money, not spend it. but I'm starting to think my calipers may need a reco... or something...

I dunno asside from installing brakes I dun know very much about diagnosing issues :p
