Haha. Good to hear that everything is back on track and you're back on the road.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Mark did a great job in trying to find the issue. It was nice dealing with someone that has knowledge and experience with these cars. Although in the end Mark didnt find any issues like the ones i had been experiencing, though what he did find was that when he put the car in diagnostic mode it wasnt locking the timing, so there is a possible ECU problem there. He also reset the TPS after finding that the TPS error code came up every now and again. They continued doing many dyno runs without finding any issues.

Iv had the car back since last friday and it has been driving with no issues as of yet. My theory is that it was a really bad batch of fuel or that whatever the problem was is severely intermittent.

Re:Car wont idle when warm (Mr2gtracer)

Mark and the boys at MRC will find the problem. I can't praise those guys enough. I'm taking my car there shortly to do a major service with some other additions.

Are there any updates?
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Update:

Since my last post i have checked the VSV and it was well with in BGB specs.

I have also given up on playing garage mechanic and have left the car in the hands of MRC Castle Hill who have not found the root of the issue but have found after dyno-ing and testing that the car is running very nicely and power is as per stock spec however the irregular running is due to the fact that the computer has advanced the timing by 20deg. What they cant understand is what is causing it and why the engine isnt pinging due to the large increase in timing and is running relatively good.

Time will tell.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Yeah sure do. Hopefully i will have some time to test it later tonight.

Toyota has quoted $144 and 10-15 days from Japan. Would you or anyone else happen to know if there are aftermarket solutions for this? I have done a quick google search that unfortunately returned nothing.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Reddtarga)

I assume you have a gen3 NA engine service manual?
There is a free download in the tech section of the forum. It has test procedures for the VSV
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Mrskylighter

Have you reset the ecu after making these changes/repairs?

Sure have. I have been taking out the fuse to reset the storage of error codes. Not that it makes a difference as every time i check for error codes after the engine malfunction light comes on it says there is nothing wrong with it.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Mrskylighter)

Have you reset the ecu after making these changes/repairs?
Its unlikely to help but you never know.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Turns out that it didnt fix it....in fact its worse now, to the point that it stalls itself. Though it worked flawlessly last night. Im quite stumped at the moment. Suppose testing the VSV itself is the next step.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Reddtarga)

"Lastly it turned out that the engine builders put the vacuum lines on the wrong spots. It seemed to be quite a few issues, first being the ignitor and coil pack.

Having a hunch that it would possibly relate to the IACV. I whipped off the IACV to find that the rear seal had slightly been damaged, the inside valve had a fair bit of resistance and there was a slight bit of corrosion which cleaned up easily. At the same time i replaced the solenoid with a spare one i had from a turbo.

Cleaning this up and replacing parts helped the issue slightly but due to now having an air pocket in the coolant system the issue was still prevalent. Bleeding the system a few times made a big difference the issue wasnt happening as much.

Lastly it turned out that the engine builders put the vacuum lines on the wrong spots. So the Fuel pressure VSV was flowing into where the ACIS vacuum tank line should of been flowing to and visa versa. Its now not having any issues with the actuator going mental and the engine running rich.

Time will tell when i take her for a proper drive tomorrow.

Cheers again for helping
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Reddtarga)

Good luck, and post up how you get on.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Great! The service manual has a procedure to test the VSV.
Re:Car wont idle when warm (Deco)

Sorry i muddled what i was trying to say. I knew that what was shown in the video is an actuator for the ACIS which is controlled by the VSV for Idle up (according to Toyodiy). From what it appears the engine goes to sit at idle but then is unable to and begins to stall. At this point the ECU opens this actuator to raise the rpm to stop it from stalling.

If this is a VSV issue. Could the vacuum tank cause this? As it is the only part i have needed to replace in the system. Possibly faulty? The only other thing i could think of is the IACV that sits under the throttle body.

Thanks for replying
