(Tool831)

Brought PlastiDip today for $25.00 - Matte black.

I am very pleased about the results and will continue to do the rest of my exterior trim. I done no prep work (No sanding) I gave it a light clean with a rag, clear dust and finger prints. Due to being windy and first ever using a product like this, I had 3 attempts. PlastiDip peels off and I can start over, 3rd attempt left to sit in the sun longer then my first two attempts. Tape was removed easier when it's settled I learned. The spray can bond the tape and the trim together and when you peel the tape back, chances are it can pick up the rest of the plastic film.

*Before* (Ignore the gloss spray paint tape)

*After*

Re:Faded black trim? (Tool831)

Eric
if you did want to paint it though, maybe consider plastidip? its pretty sweet and has that rubbery matte black finish to it

Never heard of Plastidip, know any places in Perth that would sell it?
---------------

Edit: Found a place in Coogee here that sells it, I researched the product seems all good to me. I did attempt shoe polish today out of curiosity. Works on non faded parts but for the faded marks just does the same as Maguire's just slightly darkens it.

I'll update once I use Plasti Dip. Matte black.
Re:Faded black trim? It seems more safer then using spray paint, although I have found Dupli-Colour sell a Trim paint; come in handy for spraying the weather and wipers trim on the front.

Re:Faded black trim? (Tool831)

You sure that would work on the exterior trim? Judging by paint, not sure if it would be weather proof. I guess alternative paint would be flat black everyday paint?

Unless my first post confused some to think I was talking interior wise?
--------

Thought I would post a image of what I am dealing with, they will not fade or restore black using Maguire's. - I noticed today inspecting passenger side doesn't have much, only driver side that has more.

Re:Faded black trim? (darius)

senshiToday I began. It mostly just a test day, I only did three pieces to see how this stuff is going to work. I used some Green Works household cleaner to clean the parts before painting and I used Dupli-Color Vinyl Fabric flat black to paint them.

I think they turned out pretty well, however, I noticed the first two pieces that I painted seemed to be rough after painting, as if the paint was just dry dust on top of the plastic. But by the third piece I figured out that this is because I was holding the spray can too far from the pieces I was painting. I'd advise anyone else to hold it 4 inches or so from the piece, as I was originally holding it about a foot away. I also might add that I did not do any prepping as far as sanding or primering. All I did was clean the pieces, though I did wetsand with some 400 grit sandpaper on some of the spots that had scratches/cuts with plastic sticking up to smooth things out a bit.
Anyway here's the results so far:
BEFORE:

AFTER:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Re:Faded black trim? (Tool831)

Hey guys,

Searched around the forum, best results to fix faded trim. This thread Faded window liner/skirts and Peanut butter not keen on it. I have my side quarter windows, targa roof trim faded marks on exterior. I have tried Meguiar's Plastic X, Meguiar's trim detailer, these do work but the exterior trim that has the grey faded marks; these products tint the grey. Does not darken enough to be "Black" with the other trim.

Chase_D tried yesterday something he has used on his trim but didn't work either (Attempted on targa trim) Personally I can spend up to 4 hours cleaning and still not be happy. This is one of those things that irritate me. <img src="https://www.classic-ford.org/mr2/mr2play/upfiles/smiley/s8.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" /> I was thinking "Mother's Naturally Black" but it will just have the same result as Maguire's I reckon.

Any suggestions? I have heard about a black dye that contains a chemical to it, never was told the name.
