But when I had a look at the price & found out it would be an extra $440 per year I didn't think for very long.

Well, with surname that starts with a 'Z', I've been known as Mr Z for a few years. So my choice would be MRZ MR2.

I recently got a personalised number plate for my 1992 toyota MR2 (which I am quite excited about) and it convinced me to post a topic to this forum asking others what the best one they have seen was.

The best one that I have seen would have to be BOSS (in South Australia), see them driving it around every now and then.
