Hey Brendan, I just got home from a fairly long run today, and checked temps under the front trunk.

By far the most heat was coming from the front bulkhead just behind the radiator, and that whole area was hot to touch.
The exposed coolant pipes were adding quite a bit of heat too.
Seemed to be much cooler at the rear of the frunk around the heater pipes.

Correct i dont have the heater pipes, at the moment still have the radiator pipes.
Infact dont have much under there at all ha ha, no power steering, no fuse box, very little wiring, no brake or clutch cylinders / boosters ect, just a battery.

The boot is full tho, and the esky with ice will weigh up to 10kg full, so want to get ti as far forward and low as possible.

Your race car might be a little cooler under the bonnet than a road SW20 as you won't have the heater pipes in there?

In my NA last Sunday on a 250 km run from Halls Gap, upon arrival home I lifted the frunk lid to unload stuff, and found it was quite hot, I suppose from the radiator.
I didn't measure the temp, but it was noticeably hotter than the boot ever gets. (from the muffler below)
Not a scorcher day but I still needed the aircond running on the trip to be comfortable.

Hi all,

Its been a very long time since ive driven a mr2, well more then a few meters, just have an odd question to anyone driving around on a HOT day.

How hot does it get under the front bonnet? im more interested in after driving on a hot day, not parked in the sun ect.

Im building a race car, i have a cool shirt esky i need to mount, basically an esky that you fill with ice or dry ice, has a pipe looping through it, which cools air being forced into my helmet, same as v8 supercars ect.
At this stage as im not doing any long driving so i wont be using a cool shirt, which is a underwear shirt with small pipes all over, that circulates water from the esky, so for now just helmet air. I dont get claustrophobic, but sitting in a car, with perspex windows that cant open, no aircon, no heat shileds, no carpet, ect on a hot day, in a full suit, with a closed helmet on, rushed/stressed/adrenaline ect, man i cant breath, so ill have some cooler then outside air forced into the helmet.

The original plan was to mount it on the passenger side floor, but in front of the seat is full of plumb in fire extinguisher bottle, wiring, PDM, data loggers ect, was going to put were pass seat goes but most times i will have a pass seat in.

Inside the car will get hot, wondering how hot under the front bonnet gets? due to rad fans pushing heat onto radiator firewall ect. Can put heat reflecting material on wall i guess.
