I don't have any memory of going down that way, and if I had done with the MR2 I'm sure I would have remembered it. I never needed to go that far up as I was posted at RAAF Glenbrook.

Ah, to drive in real mountains again..........I do miss it!

The largest mountain range over here in the Perth area resembles a speed bump! LOL

I have just fitted 205/45/16 kumho ku31s and 225/16/45 ku31s to my new super advans,
cost me 500$ in tyres fitted and balanced aha! I havnt driven alot on them, but i know from previous experience they are a very decent all round tyre, especially in the dry!

But my next purchase will most likely be YOKO NEOVA AD08 just because they are an AWSOME street and entry level track tyre!
once i can justify spending cash on tyres even tho i have just bought brand new tyres ahaha!

Good to see you got some good sized 15s, and good tyres at that!

Ah yes, Glenmore Park......I used to throw my MR2 into the zillion round-a-bouts when I lived there!

I used to love the daily run up to Glenbrook too!

Hey guys, I've done about 1000 km on the tyres now and thought I'd check in and let you know how they're going.

P E T E - you were right with the floatey-ness after they first went on - felt pretty awful on the highway, like it could go any where with the lightest breeze. I had one moment when I went to change lanes after an overtake and the car went a little further than I expected across a little too quickly...

But, now that I'm about 1,000 km in I can tell that there is none of that feeling any more. I haven't gone through many tyres in total so I don't have much to compare it to, but these are certainly better than what I had before. They give me pretty good confidence while driving around in Glenmore Park (for those of you in Western Sydney, you know what I mean). Would love to track the car again to see how they go there.

Haven't had a chance to try them in the wet yet.

I'll be interested to see what you think of the Toyo T1R's. I had them and they felt floating/unresponsive on the Hwy. I'm now upgrading to 17' rims to open up a larger selection of wheel sizes.

Also, Toyo don't list those sizes on their website anymore, so my guess is their just using up the left over stock at the moment.

Hey guys, thread is a bit old now but I thought I'd post something to update now that I've finally got a new set fittled all around.

After all this discussion about the Toyor T1R's and it fitting with 205/55 on fronts. While talking the tyres guy in Penrith (CC Tyres), going through what was available for my car - turns out that Toyo does create T1R's that are 195/55! He said they might be getting discontinued though.

Net Result:
2x Toyo T1R 195/55/15 on front
2x Toyo T1R 225/50/15 on rear
Total cost $690

How they handle?
No idea yet, haven't had a chance to actually try them out.

Good to know that they still offer tyres in 15". But like Mr Steve here I gave up the 15's and will be retiring them to semi's. Using my 16's (R32 combo) with Bridgestone RE002s. I think these tyres are hard to beat equally in terms of price and performance for the street. Only downside is they offer only 50 profile for the 16's rear.

The downside of going to 17's, is that the ride will suffer compared to the stock 15's. Not so good if your car is a daily driver.

On a recent Vic MR2 Club run I checked the tyres on three different SW20's that were still running stock 15" wheels. When I asked the owners opinion about the tyres they were running they claimed not to have any problems.

One had Hankook K105's F/R
One had Falken 912's F/R,
One had Toyo T1R's F/R
I did note that they were all running the same brand front and rear, and although they all had 225/50R15 on the rear, I think at least one had a 205/50R15 front rather than the stock 195/55R15.
On recent checking I believe all those tyres are still available.

I previously had Yoko ES 100's on my SW20. When the rears wore out I couldn't get replacements. I tried Toyo TR1's but found the the combination of the ES100's on the front (stiff sidewall tyre) and Toyo's (soft) on rear to be "spooky". I onsold them after only a few hundred Kms.
Scope runs Toyo TR1s all round (15") however and really likes them. He has also said they take a 1000kms or so to bed in.
I went to 17 inch rims to improve my tyre choices and am so pleased I did. There are many more performance tyres now available to me. The lower profile tyres (40 Vs 55/50) necessitated by the larger diameter rim has made a significant difference to steering response, handling and grip. I wouldn't go back!
If you're able to, I'd recommend you go to 17" rims as the choice of tyres in 15" size will only get worse.

Can I suggest Kumho's they have a large range, but you may need to have slightly different tread pattern between front and rears, but have a chat to you tyre dealer......I have recently acquired Kuhmo Ecsta KU21 for both front and rear and found them to be fantastic.......they are not a track tyre, but great for general driving - recommended. :-)

I believe you just have to specifically ask a tyre retailer what they can actually get for you, and they'll probably have to phone up their supplier to find out.

I went looking for them after they were recommended, the website lists the 225/50R15 as a size but unfortunately I haven't found anyone that sells them, it's all 225/60R15 :(.

The tyres that came with the car when I bought it were GT Radial Champiro 50's and I had no real complaints about them! They did seem a bit noisy, but never had any issues in wet or dry. Another tyre that isn't made anymore and the successor doesn't come in the correct sizes.

After all this looking around, if I'm dead set on having the same tyres all round then I'm down to two tyres that are actually sold/can fit the car: Toyo T1R's and Falken Ziex 912. From what I read about both tyres before, I'm leaning towards the toyo's for an MR2.

I am afraid that some time in the future nobody will make that size in a road tyre, and we'll all be running R comps.
