This is my first project car . Wish I knew what I was doing (mechanically) save myself a few peanuts ..

Re:Head gasket (beagle_senior)

well depends on how much your mechanic charges for labour, but a forged rod and piston combo will be roughly 1g, new computer installed and tuned roughly 3-4g, then I would upgrade the turbo, fuel pump and injectors...

bare in mind, you could also, and should spend some of that on handling and brake upgrades to even the car out too..
Re:Head gasket (Head gasket)

Yeah mate I've heard the gen 3 is tuff .. And I'm keen to throw around 5-10 k on the motor .. Its stock as a rock but still gets up.. Fun car but I need power.. I was thinking new computer, electric. Boost control , pod filter, then build the motor, while the engine is open what else should I reinforce before dropping it back in

Re:Head gasket (beagle_senior)

gen 3 motor is the goods man. Depending on the amount of cash you're willing to throw down on it, maybe rebuild it with forged rods and pistons, and put a metal head gasket in it.. that way you have a good base to start with for future upgrades
Head gasket (Head gasket)

G'day, I have a 1990 mr2 manual turbo 3s gtse gen 3 and I'm pretty sure it's blown the head gasket.
I have plans on throwing a bit of money on this car but I'd like to get a bit of bang for my buck
So just after some advice.... I want a strong reliable motor that isnt riddled with faults .that can be worked so am I better off
Rebuilding the motor I have or buying a new one or a completely different engine?
