Two'sR'Us say: TRD Lowering Springs typically lower the vehicle from 1 to 1.5 inches, front and rear.
That's about the amount I got on my SW20 with the Bilstein/TRD combo.

For a great balance between performance and maintaining comfortable ride quality, I highly recommend OEM Bilstein stuts/shocks (as fitted to SW20 GTs) with the TRD springs made for the SW20. I've driven SW20s on King Springs and Teins and think the TRDs are by far the best.

Reputable suspension specialist: I highly recommend 'Road and Race' in Rydalmere.

Ok, I've been sifting through this thread with a lot of interest & I'm the first to admit I know sweet FA about this stuff. Can anyone simply suggest a good setup to give a nice ride height for mostly freeway driving on NSW roads. This is NOT a track car, it's a daily doing about 800km's week - freeway driving so its mainly just for looks !! Alternatively, are there any reputable suspension specialists in the Sydney area that I could pay a visit to?? Cheers & Merry Xmas guys....

If you want to get technical, the stock struts ARE coilovers :P
I've actually gone 50:50 with mine, I have stock struts with Koni shocks in them that I modified to take readily available aftermarket 65mm coilover springs from HSD. This lets me pick n choose my spring rates (try doing that with Kings...) as well as run a quality shock like the Koni's which are competent on the street and track.

Please don't put words in my mouth. Defending would mean that I am emotionally attached to something as oppose to using simple logics/physics.

Read back only one page and you'll see that I am actually saying well matched springs + dampers is the way to go, coilovers or not. People would need to choose the right setup rather than using off the shelf defaults.

So the generalisation that coilover sucks for ride comfort isn't valid if people are comparing spring rates of 3kg springs in standard strut vs 8kg for coilovers, or even more aggressive.

And s2d4 is not the first person to advocate BC's for street either. Difficult to assess as someone mentioned earlier I think that comfort is subjective :/

What are the reasons behind coilovers having a harsh ride?

most of the 'off the shelf' being designed for Jap roads, not our patched up roads, and race tracks. :)
