The importer of the vehicle is responsible for back up of this vehicle.

Well, looks like its back to the drawing board, trying to source wheels that meet my new tyre placard. (225/50/16 & rear 245/50/16).

I got a feeling the front wont even be able to turn without scrubbing.
Re:Tyre placard (Tree)

That sounds better!
Re:Tyre placard (Carmikey)

Just received email back from 'Vehicle Standards, Dept Planning, Transport & Infrastructure' (S.A) stating this:

If the vehicle is fitted with a additional tyre placard over the original then this would have to be removed so only the original one is visible. If this is damaged a new one would have to be sourced from Toyota and if this not available you would need written confirmation from Toyota regarding the unavailability of the part.

OK - will see how I go ordering the (correct one) from Toyota, if still available.
Re:Tyre placard (Carmikey)

^^ certainly is ****ED! I've sent 'Vehicle Standards, Dept Planning, Transport & Infrastructure' an email querying my issue, will wait & see what they have to say.

Last thing I want to happen is I rock up to the next inspection, happen to get another inspector that says - 'what, them wheels are way too big... that tire placard is wrong'..... Then what!!
Re:Tyre placard (Tree)

DUDE THAT IS ****ED!!!
Send us your email I can give you a scanned brouchure of 1990 SW20s for proof. I also have 1990+ for reference of later models. 225 front might scrub with no modding and 245 pretty wide if it's NA
Re:Tyre placard (MRTurbo)

Mike - mine went through the dreaded Regency some years back (as you prob know). I got pwned because I had fitted 45 profile tyres to 17's...so this just says that you can stick any placard on there and they'll believe it. Mine still had the original Rev1 14" placard on there so they busted out their calculator on the stock sizes.

The only concern now is that the load ratings of the 40 profile 17s do not comply with the rev1 placard...
Re:Tyre placard (Carmikey)

While on subject of wheel / tyre specs, I have just ran my MR2 Sw20 1991 over pits @ Regency S.A. for a fully compliance & roadworthy inspection (cost mine you $265.00).

Rolled in on factory 14' (195/60/14 & 205/60/14) only to have the inspector deny approval because someone in the past has placed another tire placard over the original which reads '225/50/16 & rear 245/50/16. WHAT THE!!!

Anyway - he was not the type that was up for a discussion by any means, this now leaves me with the option of fitting any wheels / tires around this new specification.

In SA this is the standard they go on..
*Legal limit: There is no requirement for the increase or decrease in rim diameter provided that the overall diameter of the rim/tyre combination does not change by more than 15mm.
Re:Tyre placard (sweeetpete)

While I am swapping parts over from the Celica to the Spyder I borrowed the tyre placard as well as it has larger wider wheels on it. was easy to peel off and stick straight back down on mine.

Re:Tyre placard (Tree)

yep, not surprised :(
Re:Tyre placard (tullybanana1)

Hmmm, must be missing, thanks anyway.
