Also TRD knob fitted.
Was also given original lever & bolts.
I wasn't particularly happy with the shortness of the arrangement, so tried the original lever with the lowering/spacer plate to try for an intermediate arrangement.
Problem was that the original lever touched the inside of the lowering plate in 1st & 2nd making shifting not 100 % positive.
Then reverted to B&M lever without lowering plate, which was considerably better.
Changed TRD knob for an AOne Auto SAAS type which somewhat resembles the MR2 original, which made the feel better again.
Only problem with this arrangement is that the cables rise from the fixing points under the console. Another forum reckons this is undesirable because it puts some stress on the cables.
I reckon that I am going to refit the lowering/spacer plate & see how that is with the longer knob.
Also want to get an original MR2 knob, & try that.
Hope this helps.

Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (s2d4)

If you are talking about the plate, there would be a difference in feel between if the plate was metal or polyurethane.

If you are talking about the lever, it is shortened, so a smaller radius hence smaller amount of movement would be required for shifting.

This page shows differences in the available levers
http://forums.bcmr2.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10658
Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (5SGTE)

So does that mean just the lowering plate doesn't actually do anything for feel (I know the knob will be lower but to actual movement feel or throw etc) just looks?

Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (purple5ive)

damn just realised that the pic i posted a link has both the spacer plate and also a gen 3 short shifter lol so im guessing using both is also an option..
Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (purple5ive)

Has anyone got any pics of these spacer plates installed
i want to see what the difference is as ive never really understood what they do lol.
edit - just found a link scroll down half way through and there a pic of the spacer plate installed,
http://www.mr2.com/forums/turbo-engine-talk-modifications-swaps/Toyota-MR2-61066-1991-mr2-n-auto-3sgte-gen-iii-lsd-swap.html
from looking at the picture you wouldnt want to install the gen 3 shifter and the spacer plate at the same time right?? cause that would make the shifter assembly reallly low into the console
would it be right in saying that either install a gen 3 shifter along with the gen 3 base plate, or install the aftermarket spacer into the gen 2 base plate to achieve the same outcome???
<img src="https://www.classic-ford.org/mr2/mr2play/upfiles/smiley/s13.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" /><img src="https://www.classic-ford.org/mr2/mr2play/upfiles/smiley/s13.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" /><img src="https://www.classic-ford.org/mr2/mr2play/upfiles/smiley/s13.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" />

Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (Mrskylighter)

The plate just lowers the lever further down into the console. Makes the shift knob lower etc
The short shift lever (or whatever you want to call it) simply has the attachment point for the cable mounted further up the lever. Doing this makes the throw shorter.

That is my understanding anyway.

5SGTE

How do these things work? sorry lol I know I'm missing something obvious.

Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (5SGTE)

How do these things work? sorry lol I know I'm missing something obvious.
Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (Tree)

The the Two's R Us spacer makes quite a difference and it's feels pretty good to me although someone commented after driving my 2 "does this thing get any shorter?" so then I said "nah it's not like yours".
It would have been funny if the second part was true <img src="https://www.classic-ford.org/mr2/mr2play/upfiles/smiley/icon_smile_spin.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" />
Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (Mrskylighter)

If you have one James and its not surface rusty etc i'm keen.
$20 Shipped? :)

-Totenkopf-

Nick I think I might have one in the shed.

Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (-Totenkopf-)

Nick I think I might have one in the shed.
Re:SW20 OEM 93+ shorter shifter assembly or just the lever itself (s2d4)

They are basically spacers.
