The OEM headers are a good design but not so good that it can't be improved on.
For example, while I have no experience with the Gen 3 motor, I know that for the Gen 2 3SGE the Fujitsubo Super X system is a much better design than stock. It retains the stock 4-2-1 format and is all stainless with larger diameter equal length primary pipes, much smoother welding inside the pipe branches and is all mandrel bent (unlike the stock header).
Even fitting this on it's own can give gains you would notice.
I agree that buy them new they are certainly a lot of $$$, but unfortunately that's just the way it is - good stuff costs.

Yeh unless you wanna spend $$$ for a very low return, the exhaust manifold for the 3SGE is not bad. Both the early and late models are designed quite well by Toyota

At this point i'd just like to point out that the stock Gen3 JDM 4-2-1 system (like I run) has the largest pipe bores you will find. They are a perfectly good system from the head back so there is very little that you would gain from spending silly $$$ getting a custom setup.

Thanks for the head's up Mark! Extractors to suit the 3sge powered mr2's seem to be very scarce on the web I've noticed the market is flooded with 5sfe jobs but why would you bother improving a Camry spec motor?

If your in Sydney I've seen these guys turn out some nice work. I had them modify a set of usa spec extractors and fabricate a mandrel bent exhaust on a corolla sx I used to own. They also did a complete custom exhaust on a mates mazda 6 mps including custom turbo manifold.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm thinking about getting one made up if there isn't an aftermarket bolt on option. Does anybody know of any exhaust shops that would make up these?

Although it is a four into one configuration, that unit is to fit Jap spec 91-94 NA that would indicate gen2, therefore would not fit a gen3. The exhaust ports are different.

Something to check on when going for aftermarket headers:
Depending on the brand, you may loose your top heat shield that means the engine bay will run hotter, including the intake manifold. Ceramic coating can fix that, but can be expensive.
Also some may not have any bracket stays at the secondary pipe/s join to relieve the strain on the head mounting studs.
