(artymr2)

I actually used to fill the oil filter on my old subarus when changing the oil, it was vertically mounted upside down so no mess at all with changing the filter or filling it (why aren't all engines designed like this??). I didn't fill the oil through the middle hole, just filed it up all over until it was full, took less than a minute so no big drama.

I wouldn't do the filter fill trick on a gen 2, it was bad enough spilling the oil from the filter removing it, what a poor design. The gen3 filter is upside down but on a slight slant, much improved design.

Cheers
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? (Reddtarga)

Although I have never tried it myself, I've heard some people even fill the filter with oil before fitting it after an oil change, or with a new motor.

You would have to take your time filling it thru the middle hole until the whole filter was full the other side of the filter element, but because on sdubs the filter is mounted upside down, some would run out before you could get it on.
But if you don't mind a bit of a mess maybe it would cut the time for the pressure to come online.
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? Nice precaution though.
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? (dasic1)

He posted that in my showroom thread. I would just remove the spark plugs and crank it.

Edit: No he didnt it was something else
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? (artymr2)

Thanks, yeah thats what I meant but was wondering if there is another way, I thought I read Mandalay mention pumping the oil in some place into an oil gallery so its basically under pressure when you finish. Might search again.

Cheers
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? (MRTurbo)

You could even just crank it for a while with the EFI fuse removed, so it wont actually start but just to prime it a bit first.
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? (artymr2)

Thanks, never heard of that one before. Definitely don't want to pull oil pump off again (engine is now in the car). It was running before it got pulled out of the half cut, so not a full rebuild etc.

Cheers
Re:Any tips for engine restart after loooooong time not running? (blacky83)

On total rebuilds ppl usually fill the oil pump with grease so it will always have something to pull through. If you don't feel like pulling it definitely crank over till you get pressure.
